William John Anderson emigrated to NZ with his sister's Ginnie and Jessie in approx 1907. The name Marypark has been mentioned as significant. I know little about him and his forebears as he died 21/03/1929 when my Father, John William James Anderson was 6 weeks old.

Amazingly I have relatives from this beautiful place. Searching for details/confirmation that William Thomas POLE was died/buried there 7 Nov, 1869. His wife Lillias Thomason was supposed to be born there about 1789. Would love more details of that and whether she died there. Also anything about her family (Michael Thomason and Jame Umphrey). BMD, children ... Needing a miracle -a history buff who loves their island as I believe only about 20 people now live there!

I am looking for information about Thomas Thompson (yes I know it is a common name!)and his family. By the 1841 Census, he was living at Copister on Yell, with his wife Margaret and three daughters, Jane 24, Anne 13 and Margaret 8. They gad a son William, (my great-great grandfather) who would have been 20 in 1841 - I suspect he may have already left home by this time, on his way south to Liverpool, where he lived in later life.

I am looking for anyone with any knowledge or connections with North Dale, Rusetter, Grutton, Houll or Setter. My family line is: Jacob of North Dale (1510), Nicol Jacobson (1530); Olaf Nicolson (1550); William Olafson (1608); Thomas Williamson (1630); Daniel Thomason (1667); James Danielson (1728); Henry Jamieson (1745); Charles Henderson (1785). Master mariner mid 1980s whose certificate gives Ollaberry as his birthplace. Married Agnes Barclay (or Berkeley) Anderson in the Scots Church in Liverpool. Father's occupation as Temperance Advocate. Family settled around Liverpool. Robert Cowie, junior, who became a free church minister in Vermont; Nancy who married a Berg; Barbara who married Reginald Stewart, dentist, on the Wirral; Margaret who married Archibald Waddington, a local govt. officer; John and possibly more.

I am looking for information on my 5th great grandfather Matthew Tait born around 1768. He married Janet Nicolson. They had 6 children born around Ollaberry and Collafirth. His grandson Andrew Tait moved his wife Janet (Jessie) and their 8 children to Canada in 1874. I have a bit of information but would like to know more on Matthew and what their occupations were.

My grandfather, George Hay Lawson, left the Shetlands in 1874 for New Zealand. His father was Fredrik Larsen, originally of Copenhagen, Denmark. His mother was Agnes Tulloch of Scalloway. I am not sure when the change of spelling of the name from Larsen to Lawson took place or why it was changed.

Mary was born in Walls 1841 daughter of Oliver Tait and Barbara Abernethy. She married William Harris in Glasgow 1877- her address is given as Melbourne Villa, Bridge of Allan where she was employed as a domestic servant. Mary died in Uphall in 1915. I can't find her on 1871, 1891 or 1901 Census. Can anyone help! William Harris was previously married to Ann Gowans
red mail Can someone please photograph my ancestors gravestone in Walls? - (Walls - Shetland)
I'd be very grateful if someone in Walls could take some photos of my ancestors grave in WALLS KIRKYARD CEMETERY. I live in New Zealand so it's a bit of a trip. My ancestors came out from Walls circa 1878. The grave is THOMAS MOFFAT 1808-1887 and his wife MARION (ROBERTSON) 1815-1904. I was so excited to have found a burial site now I have to see it!
