I am trying to get some clarification on ALEXANDER GARDINER (born 30/4/1774 in Port Glasgow, Renfrew). His parents were Alexander Gardiner and Janet McKinlay (no dates). I am looking for a ALEXANDER GARDINER, born around this time, who was an educated man, and was in MOSCOW around 1808. He travelled to St. Petersburg, Prussia, Turkey, amongst other places in this area. He wrote a manuscript called Augustus Gollman with Sketckes of Life, Manners and Characters in Russia. I have a great grandfather, SIR ROBERT MAY GARDINER (1819-1887) (not to be confused with Sir Robert William Gardiner) born in Nova Scotia and died in Fulham. His father was DAVID GARDINER (1786-1827), who was Scottish and went to Canada in 1811. I hope to find out if my family is the same one as the Gardiner/McKinlay family.
red mail BARR, Jean, 1761, married SCLATER and was daughter of John and Margaret.
Was trying to find information on the above person. It's really hard. The public member trees have her mother as Margaret with the surname Isabella. The records I've discovered which could be her have her mother as HOLM. Though still Margaret. I'm confused and don't want to attempt anything with the family tree until I know what the actual mother is. Jean 1761 Barr would marry a man with the surname SCLATER. Thank you in advance!
