Boer War need help
I have just discovered on searching the 1901 census for Greenock for my paternal grandfather,(James Barr) that he was not at home, but his wife is noted as being a soldiers wife, and it is also noted that he was a reservist, would that mean he would not have been sent overseas to fight, but instead have been stationed either in Scotland or England, and if in Scotland, where would the nearest barracks have been to Greenock? I would be very grateful for any information on that, thank you.
