Jack/ Tran/ Barnett Auchterarder, Blackford 1800-1050
Seeking relatives/ details on John JACK and Mary TRAN had son JAMES JACK 1778 in BLACKFORD, married following year. Mary TRAN family appears to be farmer for TULLIBARDINE Castle. No other children identified. Also same JAMES JACK married MARGARET BARNETT in AUCHTERARDER 1798. Trying to untangle as this James and Margaret emigrated to US in 1832, but there is another James and Margaret interred in Auchterarder.
red mail Patricia Lawra Gordon Kelly/Anne Dewar
I'm looking for my biological relatives possibly still in the Auchterarder area. I was born in Sydney Australia 1964, my biological mother was Patricia Kelly, daughter of Anne Dewar (both from Auchterarder). Anne came out to Australia around 1962 with her husband and children, settling in Sydney and then leaving for New Zealand several years later. Not sure as to Anne's date of birth, possibly 1920's. If anyone knows of Dewars still residing in the Auchterarder area I would be keen to get in touch to piece together a somewhat fragmented family history. Kind Regards, Theresa.
red mail Don/Somerville
Searching for ancestors of Alexander Don and Jean Somerville. I believe Alexander was born in Crieff in 1810 and married Jean Somerville, whom I also believe was born in the same area around 1801. They had a family of three girls (Helen, Anne and Jean) and three boys (James, Alexander and Robert) and emigrated to Australia in 1856 where they settled in the "gold rush" town of Ballarat, Victoria.

red mail Isabella Gibson
Can anyone supply the birth/baptism of Isabella Gibson born ca 1824-6 in or near Auchterarder. She married Daniel Forbes in 1845, does the original marriage entry give her father's name? She could be the daughter of William Gibson and Elizabeth Philp, who lived almost next door to the Forbes in Auchterarder high street. Isabella appears there in the 1841 census but of course no relationship is given. Also she could be the daughter of James Stobie and Catherine, whose daughter Elizabeth married Daniel Forbes' brother John.(Catherine came from Forgandenny). I am also looking for the baptism of Daniel Forbes' sister Lilias born ca 1821, and her marriage. What happened to her? Any information gratefully received. Many thanks

In particular 1908 onwards.William had lots of siblings, Archibald, Davidson, John, Robert, James, Ann -Jane, Mary -Elizabeth, Agnes, Mary and Alexander.

red mail Sutherland Family of Auchterarder
I can trace my ancestry back to Angus Sutherland of Auchterarder who was born possibly in Brora, Sutherland and who died 1.8.1847. He married Jean Imrie (Imery, Imbrie?) who died 21.9.1835. His father was possibly Donald Sutherland, born in the parish of Golspie in 1743, or possibly Toupie just south of Brora, or possibly Underboll, Sutherland. I'll be grateful if anyone can throw any further light on this
red mail Penny family, Perthshire
I am descended from a James Penny, reportedly born on July 14, 1762 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Later records indicate that his father was named Robert Penny and his mother was named Rose Milread or Milread Rose or Ross (handwritten and unclear). The family was said to be Presbyterian Covenanters. In about 1770 the family arrived in Drummore township in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania - perhaps after a period in Ulster, Ireland. James served as a drummer boy in the American Revolution due to his age and later moved to Natchez, Mississippi and then to Louisiana. I see from this website that there were Pennys in Perthshire in Auchterarder and Dunning and did not find the name elsewhere in Scotland. Please contact me if we are related.
red mail Forbes and Gibson families
My Gt Gt grandfather was Daniel Forbes born in Auchterarder in 1824, parents Daniel Forbes and Annie Robb ((of Logie). Both he and his brother John married Gibsons, Isabella and Elizabeth resp. They lived next door to Isabella in the High Street, but Elizabeth Gibson was maybe a cousin or coincidence. Earlier names include Stobie, Roy, McCara/McAree/King,Phil(i)p and Herdman. Any information on Daniels's sister Lilias who married in Anstruther would be most appreciated. Daniel and Isabella moved to Anstruther, then to Edinburgh and then to London and most of the family came to London too.

red mail David Crichton
Thanks to a cousin in South Africa I have learned that brothers David and Richard Crichton went to Australia from the Cape after 1884. David was born in 1859 in Auchterarder, Scotland and travelled with his parents to Port Elizabeth, South Africa, shortly thereafter. Richard was born in Port Elizabeth in 1861. Their parents were Peter and Ann Crichton, Peter hailing from Culross on the Firth of Forth. David's death, aged 27, is recorded in Waterloo, Sydney, in 1887, allegedly by drowning. Richard, according to the family, lived on in Australia and bred horses for the imperial forces at some point between 1899 and 1918. It seems more likely that he was involved in this business during the Anglo-Boer War, 1899 - 1902. Richard was last heard from about 1906 when he made an attempt to lodge a claim against his late father's estate with the Colonial Office in Cape Town. I was not able to find a death notice for Richard. Shipping records such as are available online show that there was a trickle of Crichtons into Australia over the past two centuries. Although the name is not that common in the Southern Hemisphere, and more common in New Zealand than in Australia or South Africa, it is possible that someone working in the field of Crichton family history may know more about the Crichtons from Culross and their South African (Port Elizabeth is situated on Algoa Bay) and Australian connections.
