red mail JAMES
Looking for JAMES connection in Fishguard. Burial Register for 1832 has a GRIFFITH JAMES (abode= Tynewydd), buried 1 April; and a JOHN JAMES, buried on 28 March (abode= Twleau?). While no age is stated for Griffith, John James age is given as 21 years old. Need to clarify if related to my JAMES family. Jan
red mail Red Lion Inn
Looking for details about the woman who ran the Red Lion in Fishguard. Harriet Morgan Davies, (1865-1952) daughter of Harriet Davies, nee Morgan, (born 1822) and her second husband John Davies (1820-1891). Harriet Morgan Davies was born, lived married and died in Fishguard. She married in around 1892 according to data in a census. She had 5 children Etta M Williams (b 1894), Hugh Williams, (b 1900), twins Morfydd Davies Williams (b1902) and Ellen Richards Williams (known as Nellie 1902-2000) and Evan Richard Williams (1905-1983). Ellen married a Harry Howden (a butcher) and lived next door to the Red Lion, whilst Morfydd lived in the pub with Evan (who had a low IQ) until Morfydd died sometime in the 1980s. Harriet Morgan Davies was brought up living in the same street as the Red Lion (a couple of doors down), I'm not sure when she moved into The Red Lion, but she married in 1892 and by the 1901 census is in residence. Her husband does not show up on any census, although she says she is married and has numerous children over the years. Her daughters Ellen and Morfydd said their father was a diamond miner and travelled a lot. Without his first name I can't search passenger lists or find him on a census. Any info gratefully received about Harriet, her mysterious husband or indeed any of the family.
