red mail Benjamin Barnett 1735 - ca. 1804 - (Glympton - Oxfordshire)
Benjamin Barnett. Born 29th September 1735. Died ca. 1804. Banker. Married, 6th December 1770, Avice Wheate (born 1748, died August 1822). She was a daughter of Sir George Wheate (1695 - 1751) and Avice Ackworth. Through his marriage, Benjamin Barnett would later inherit from the Wheate family the manor at Glympton Park in north Oxfordshire. The manor house remained in the Barnett family only till 1942 since when it has passed through several owners. The adjacent grave yard and parish church, which contain many Barnett family graves and memorials are (in 2004) extremely well maintained by the present owners. The Barnett family rose from obscurity through a succession of successful careers in the British navy during the reigns of the later Stuart and earlier Hannoverian monarchs. Concerning the Barnetts of Glympton, I am on the scrounge for genealogical information that I can compare (and where necessary contrast) with my own data.
