Cullen and Rourke families in Eskermore, Daingean, County Offaly
Looking for information about the Cullen and Rourke families in Eskermore, Daingean, County Offaly. I believe that James Cullen, baptized 17 August 1836, was my great-grandfather, who later emigrated to the US around 1860, served in the Union Army in the US Civil War, and raised a family of 7 children in New York City. His parents were listed in Daingean as John Cullen and Margaret Rourke (sponsors were Thomas Rourke and Margaret Rourke), and my great-grandfather's parents were listed on his death certificate in the US as being John and Maggie Cullen. John Cullen and Margaret Rourke were married 1 March 1829 in Daingean, and had other children, including John Cullen (born 1832), Margaret (born 1845), and another Michael (born 1850) who were married in and/or had children in Daingean. Any information about the Cullens or Rourkes would be appreciated, and I can supply information about the US descendants of James Cullen if desired.
red mail Brazil - 1800 onward
I am looking for any info about the Brazil family that lived in Daingean. In the 1911 census John & Elila lived at home with 3 of their 9 children, 8 living in 1911. Thomas was the local Blacksmith, Patrick was also a blacksmith but went to the USA, Alice was only 16, but i know she came to England, Kate stayed in Daingean and married there. Margaret my Grandmother was 21 at the time and nowhere to be found, I know she came to England and Married my Grandfather but don't know when. I would like to know who the other children are and what happened to them, and what Elilas maiden name was.
red mail Donegan
Donegan - I am interested in finding family of my Irish great grandmother Mary Donegan who was born 1844 in Edenderry, moved to Daingean (Philipstown) Offaly (King's County) and emigrated to Australia in 1858 to Queensland with Patrick and Celia Donegan who were not her parents. She married Hugh Graham from Antrim in Toowoomba in July 1969, had Alice 1869 and Frank 1872. Hugh disappeared (no records) then and Mary remarried in Sydney to Walter Albert McCombie in 1877. Mary's parents Thomas and Mary nee Tyrrell stayed in Daingean where he worked as a shoemaker followed by their son William. Mary had a brother Daniel who was a jeweller in Cork, a sister Susan born 1840 who married someone Keogh and emigrated to Australia and a sister Kathleen who emigrated to US. There were other siblings born in Edenderry and Daingean. Her daughter Lydia Laing nee McCombie is my grandmother.
