My family are decended from John Turner a farmer born around 1776 in Annesley. I think he married Mary Hardwick at Kirkby in 1800 but not sure if this is correct. They had at least three sons John b 1812, Samuel b 1814 (my ancester) and James b 1816. There might have been more. Also, on the 1841 cencus there is mention of a Sarah Vorce and her children living with the family, possibly a widowed daughter or niece? I have been unable to find out anything further about them. Any info about the above would be appreciated.

Searching for information on William Cockin/Cocking and Mary Langley. I have found William being baptised under Cockin but marriage, death and baptism of son Robert as Cocking. I have him being baptised on 1 Feb 1684 at St Nicholas, Askham, Nottinghamshire. He has no parents listed. I found a marriage to Mary Langley at All Saints, Eaton, Nottinghamshire on 26 Oct 1714. William had a son Robert born 1714 with no mothers name supplied. William was buried 6 Feb 1749 in Askham. Mary was buried 19 Jan 1747, Askham, but have been unable to find a baptism for her. I would appreciate any help filling in the blanks.

Looking for anyone who knows the Marshall family of Barnby Moor near Retford. Particularly William Herbert Marshall (born 1893) who married Frances Shadbolt of Warsop. They had a son William Herbert Marshall in 1914 but sadly his young wife of 19 died of tuberculosis in 1915 and is buried in Warsop. William Herbert senior was a gardener as was his older brother and his father William Marshall before him (born Bothamsall). His father died when William Herbert was about 8yrs old and had been a patient in the London chest hospital. William Herbert Marshall became a soldier and was a resident of Appleby, north Lincolnshire when he married my great aunt Florence May Hill in Navenby. Tragedy struck again when his young son died and William committed suicide by drowning at Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire.

My 2xgr grandfather Henry Smith is on the 41 census as being born in bestwood, on the 51 census as being born in arnold and to complete the trio on the 61 census as being born in Lenton.. bless him he's a clever boy! I know his father's name is William but can't seem to find the right william/henry combination! Henry was born approx 1819 give or take, and was an ag lab worker. In 41 he was working in calverton, was married in 45 to anne bostock in blidworth, they were both living in fishpool at the time, first baby came along in 46 and was named Sarah.. can anyone shed any light on where my clever gr gr grandad was really born?? thanks in advance, I have info re smiths in arnold, wollaton, bramcote if it helps you.

I am looking for my ggg grandfather, John Selby who was born in Bradmore, Notts, about 1809. He was the son of William Selby and Mary, maiden name unknown. He had a sister Elizabeth, born about 1805. It's unknown whether there were other children. John and Elizabeth emigrated to South Africa, but as far as I can tell, were not part of the 1820 Settlers, nor do I know whether their parents emigrated as well. John was married in South Africa in November 1843. Any info on William, Mary, John and Elizabeth would be greatly appreciated. I also have this info: Parish Records of Keyworth Co Notts Removal Orders 1731 - 11 July 1803, William Selby and Mary his wife and William their child aged about 1 year are legally settled in Bradmore to which locality by law they ought to be sent. Keyworth Parish Church Marriages William Selby of Broughton Sulney and Mary Pike of this parish were married by banns on 23 March 1802. These may or may not be relevant.

Some of my antecedents originated in Burton Joyce and were Framework Knitters in the 19th C. They were the SMITH family. John was my Gt Grandfather and moved on to become a steam engine driver, living in London, Liverpool, Derby and Runcorn. He farmed in the village of Clifton from around 1918 to 1965 at Hallfields Farm which later became 44 Village Road. He was part of a large Nottinghamshire farming/agricultural contracting family originally from Bilborough. I am looking for evidence of the birth of John Richards b. 1832/4 in Colston Bassett & his marriage to Clara White b. 1837-8 in Green Hill, Leics. They may have married in Hose, where their 2 eldest children were born. The most likely evidence for John is a baptismal record (9.12.1832, same birthday as me over a century later) for John Millington Richards, the illegitimate son of Sarah Richards, but I can find no further record for Sarah. Also, if anyone can help with info about Clara White, as I can't find anything prior to 1861 census. Thanks.
