Does anyone know whereabouts in Retford Sutton's Row was ? I have discovered in the 1861 census that some of my ancestors were living there. I know it was somewhere on the East Retford side of the River Idle but that's all. I understand it was quite notorious because of it's lack of sanitation.

My ancestor there is Elizabeth PASLEY (c1837 East Retford), Nottinghamshire -1903 Eccleshall Brier, Sheffield). At the time of her marriage she was a spinster aged 21. Straw-bonnet maker. m 26.10.1856 at Sheffield Parish Church, Yorkshire Thomas Wolstoncroft RATHBONE (b 1819). Her parents were Joseph PASLEY (b 27.9.1811, bp 20.10.1811 at St. Mary le Bow, Marylebone, London - died 1st quarter of 1883 aged 71 at Sheffield) In 1851 at Gringley On The Hill, Notts - a grocer and draper. Profession: traveller on 1856 marriage certificate of dr 41.
