I'm trying to find information about Ephraim Steele born in Amble 1900 to (George) Ephraim and Mary Jane Steele (nee Turner). he had several siblings, John William (died 1913 along with his father in Malton Colliery) Edith b. 1895, George b.1897 and my grandfather Edwin b.1902 . We think Ephraim married a miss Ball in 1929 but we are awaiting confirmation of this. We also think Ephraim was musical and played the organ in church in the Durham /Northumberland area. 1911 census has the family living in Corbridge.
red mail Douglas
I am researching members of the Douglas(s) family who lived in the Amble area. At present, I am looking for info. relating to James Douglas who was born in Radcliffe in 1874. He married Hannah (surname unknown) who was born in Ashington and at the time of the 1901 census were living in Amble with their 2 daughters, Margaret (my grandmother) and Elizabeth. James was killed in a mining accident in 1902 and the family lost track of Hannah/wouldn't talk about her! I'm interested to learn anything about this family. My great grandparents are also a mystery so far as I can't track them on English or Scottish census records - George Douglas and Elizabeth English (there is a Scottish link at some point but not sure where). There is a strong coal mining background to this family. My father has been reluctant until recently to discuss his family and now 87 he will talk about it but there is a lot he doesn't know which I am trying to fill in. Any info very much appreciated!
