BANHAM - (Shelfanger - Norfolk)
Recently discovered my GG Grandfather came from Shelfanger. He was a Chelsea Pensioner for many years but seems to have moved around the country fairly well. I first came across his name when looking for my G Grandmothers birth in Etherley Durham. Her brothers BC states that Robert was a Jobbing Teacher. On his and my GG Grandmothers marriage certificates it says he was a Labourer on one and a retired farmer on the other....very confusing. I think it meant that he took what work he could. The only record for a Robert Banhams death with a wife called Margaret is in Salford Manchester in the late 1800's and he is listed then, again, as a retired soldier. I'm assuming that he and Margaret were actually living there at the time as later Margaret is to be found in Fleetwood living with my G Grandmother and taking in lodgers. Very confusing family all round. If anyone has any information about any Banham family in Shelfanger I would love to hear from you.
