red mail EKE-DEWING
I am trying to trace the parents or relatives of Sarah Ann Eke born c1830, I believe in Themelthorpe. She appears to have been a resident of the Aylsham Workhouse. In the 1841 census she is living with a John & Frances Dewing in Bawdeswell, she is listed as a pauper.By 1851 she's back in the workhouse with a baby but by 1861 she is living with John Dewing and had several children by him, although they never appear to have married.John Dewing was a blacksmith from Gibraltar. One of their childrn was my gt grandmother Bessie born 1871 in Foulsham.Any info regarding the above people or the Aylsham Workhouse would be greatly appreciated.
red mail BELL FAMILY
William Bell was a draper/ironmonger in Foulsham c.1867 and lived at London House opposite the church. He was married to Elizabeth Graver and they had 10 children. One of these was my great grandmother, Dorcas Elizabeth Bell. I have not been able to find any birth certificate for her although both the parents were married on 13 November 1863, and she was their 2nd child. All the other children have birth records except for her. Further investigation shows that they were Methodists and used the Briston Chapel for their baptisms, and although most of the other children were baptised there, I can find no record of a baptism for Dorcas either. Despite 8 years of searching and even 2 visits to Foulsham, I cannot verify her birth date, sometime in 1865/6. If anyone has any ideas or information on this family, it would be good to hear from you.
red mail Neale family
My ancestors came from Foulsham - one was licencee of a pub there and the rest were farm labourers - do you have relatives called Neale from that area?
red mail SEAMAN - Foulsham
Looking for any information about EMMA SEAMAN born around 1853 who married a Robert Emmerson.
red mail Barber Family
I am trying to track George Barber (born approx 1815)of Foulsham and his wife, a Mary Everett. The 1851 census shows her birthplace as Palgrave Sussex whilst the 1881 version where she lives with her son Cornelius, shows Palling Norfolk.
red mail William Jordan
I'm keen to find out more about William JORDAN who married Susanna WORMAN in Alderford in 1839. The marriage certificate shows his residence as Foulsham, occupation as Farmer and his father's details as William JORDAN, Farmer. The 1835 Norfolk Poll and Register lists a William JORDAN, Farmer in Foulsham but I have not been able to find out any more about these two Williams. I'm not sure of William Jnr's birthdate as he kept changing his age whenever he registered his children's births. It may have been sometime between 1795 and 1805.
red mail Batesmoor, Foulsham
Does anybody have an idea why an area (and farm) in Foulsham is known as Batesmoor? I have heard that it was named after a man called Bates who drained some marshy land in the parish in the 1600s. I have no evidence of this at all - just a memory ofbeing told this snippet years ago. My Bates ancestors came from Great Witchingham and Weston, just down the road from Foulsham. Any info gratefully received! Rob B.
