red mail KIRBY Colby and Cromer
Hello, I hope I am in the right place asking the right question. I am researching the name Kirby in Norfolk. I have reached the 1700's and have hit a brickwall. I have a John KIRBY marrying a Sarah ASHMORE on the 23rd April 1700 in Colby (Have the printout). They have three children: Elizabeth b. 23rd mar 1701/2 John b. 18th April 1704 Alexander b. 17th july 1705 All born in Cromer in St Peter & St paul church. John died 12 dec. 1725 in Cromer and Sarah died 9th may 1742 also in Cromer (also have printouts). My query is that I cannot find a birth anywhere for either of them. A bit more info is that John in the 1710-1808 apprentices transcriptions took on an apprentice by the name of doughty INMAN. John was a master Tailor. This took place in Cromer. Year of registration was 1711. Also on his marriage printout his name was spelt Johannes, I have been told that John back then could have been spelt that way. I am of course looking to find parents of either of them. All help, advice etc very much appreciated.
red mail Rigden and Sandford family
Looking for info on the above families eirly1800's. Have info of a partnership between William Rigden (Master and part owner of the collier "Commerce") and Henry Sandford a coal merchant. I also have info of a William Rigden married to Elizabeth Sandford on 10 June 1800, other than the surnames have no way of tying the tree together. Any help is appreciated. Peter

red mail Cromer folk - MAYES, CRISP, FREEMAN ETC
Have found ancestors of my husband in Cromer, his mother was born FREEMAN, daughter of Frederick Percy and Ethel Maud nee CRISP. Links back to MAYES family in Cromer from early 1800's. Hope to find more and possibly find some other descendants. Perhaps someone will recognize more recent names - HOOPER or SHIPLEY. My husband is SHIPLEY and both his parents grew up in Cromer. He is related to the HOOPER family of Bury St Edmunds through his paternal line - they owned Southern Bungalow for many years, probably from about the early 20c - Gt aunt Una WINGATE-SAUL (nee HOOPER) lived there with her husband.

red mail Cromer History
Having compiled a documentary history of Cromer pier (Poppyland Publishing, 1998, £9.95), I am now working on a more general book on Cromer history. Work for this includes putting all references to Cromer people up until the end of 1840 on a database, as well as studying primary sources of later date for information supplementing that found in the existing published histories by Rye and Savin. I also have a particular interest in the Bath House and the person and family of Simeon Simons who ran it for many years in the 19th century.
