red mail Bigney
I am a Bigney from a line that comes through Canada, my father from Nova Scotia. The line can be traced to 1750s in that province. My father claims that Bigney is an anglicanized version of Biguonet, a name from Montbeliard, that we are French Canadian. No one in the family is aware of any English connection. I would appreciate all information re Bigney in Norfolk. Where did they come from? How far back does the name go in this region?
red mail Bigney Family
My ancestors, the Bigney family, were fairly well established in Catfield when parish records began, but then appear to have left during the 17th century. Some members turn up in other Norfolk villages later on. I am interested in whether anyone elsehas noticed that their family, which appeared to be established, also left Catfield and if they had any idea why it might have happened. And, of course, I would like to contact anyone who is also interested in this name, which is pretty rare.
