red mail William JONES b Welshpool 3 Apr 1860
I am seeking more information on my great-grandfather. He does not seem to have had a middle name. He was apparently born in Welshpool in 1860 and his mother was Anne (b 1834). According to his newspaper obituary he moved from Welshpool to Wolverhampshire (Wolverhampton?) in the 1870s, then in 1879 or 1880 emigrated to Australia. He lived in Sydney and Victoria, then took up a selection at Greenvale near Narrandera in the NSW Riverina, where he lived for more than 50 years. He died on 30 April 1944. He married Alice CLARK on 2 Nov 1893 and they had four daughters and eight sons, one of whom, William Henry JONES, is my grandfather. I have a lot of information on his life in Australia but would dearly love to trace the family back to his parents in Wales and perhaps further. Thanks. Geoff

Looking for help in finding the birth of my Great Great Grandmother Mary Davies born about 1828 in Welshpool , Fathers name Robert, she married in Birmingham in 1849 would welcome any help or ideas
red mail Lost Ggrandmother
Around 1846 Sarah Jones was born in Welshpool (well that's what she said on the census!) her father was David Jones. I don't know the mother's name. Because of the common factor in the names I've never been able to trace them on a census of 1851 or 1861. I pick her up getting wed in Aberdare in 1864 and all my information comes from that date onwards. If you know of any Jones family from in or around Welshpool who moved down to the coalfields of the valleys and have any information you could share, I'd be really pleased to hear from you. Thank you Gay.

red mail Sarah Elizabeth Oscar Humphreys
I am searching for details of my great grandmother Sarah Elizabeth Oscar born 1839 in welshpool. She later married John Green (he was a policeman) about 1870 who was to become my great grandfather. I do not have very much information about her except that they resided in Laleham Middlesex England for quite a few years. Any help would be fanastic as I am just starting out on this venture. I am not sure whether Sarah was married before she married John George Green and that her maiden name was Oscar. Her fathers name was William Humphreys and her mothers maiden name was Elizabeth Adams . She (Sarah) was one of about 12 children.

red mail william charles williams
I am trying to trace records of my gt grandfather. He was born in welshpool around 1850 +/- 2 years. I cant find any trace of him until he married my gt grandmother Annie Marshallsay Gibbs, in 1879 in Cardiff. where his marriage certificates states he was 27( although other records show he should have been 29 at this stage)and that he was born in welshpool and his father John Williams was a builder. I have traced his life from marriage to death but cant find anything before 1879 not even a record of his birth. Rumour has it that he emigrated to America as an infant where he married and had twin children who along with his wife all died from cholera he then at some stage came back to the UK before 1879. I have tried all the shipping lists and web sites but cannot find any trace of him.

red mail Williams from Bellant
On the 1851 census of Leftwich, Cheshire Edward Williams (age 38) says his birthplace is Montgomeryshire Bellant. On the 1871 census he states that his birthplace is Montgomeryshire Welshpool. I would appreciate any information about a possible location for Bellant. Has anyone come across a farm, crossroads, chapel or structure of that name near Welshpool? It doesn't seem to be the name of a street in the town. A couple of notes from a journal kept by one of Edward's grandsons suggest Edward Williams parents were Sarah Jones of Welshpool and Thomas Williams who got drownded. Thanks.

red mail William Gwilt 1814-1856
William married a Jane Lloyd (1812-1864), and their first son Richard Lloyd Gwilt was born in December 1839. William was a plumber, glazier and painter, and I suspect worked at Powis Castle. Oral tradition has it that Jane was connected with the Lloyds of Lloyds Bank, and that her father was a brother to the great grandfather of Lord Lloyd of Egypt. Both William and Jane have a sizeable gravestone facing the door of Christ Church, Welshpool, and so they must have some standing within the community. I have been unable to establish the names of either of their parents, as no marriage record exists for them, and their parents are not mentioned on their death records. Does anyone have any more information?

red mail Bentley's
My 2G Grandfather was Edwin Bentley, bc.1837 in Welshpool. He was a Corporal Major, Royal Horse Guards Blue and eventually moved to the Fylde, where he died in 1902. He married twice, and from the first marriage he had a daughter Harriet, bc.1869 in Henfield, Surrey. He married Sarah Morris (nee Williams?) 2 Apr 1878 in Welshpool, and his father is listed as Morris (sic ... should be Maurice I think), who was a policeman. I believe Maurice came from Halifax, bc.1807, and he married a Sarah in Welshpool. I believe they had at leats 3 children: Edwin, Maurice R and Harriet Sarah. I have the birth certificate for Harriet (Sarah) but it does not list her father, nor her mother's maiden name. I can't find Edwin's birth reference, so it may have been just before registration began. I did find a death record for an Edwin Bentley in 4Q 1837 ... which I mistakenly thought was the birth record I was looking for! Edwin Bentley and Sarah had 8 Bentley children (and Sarah had 5 Morris children too). I am descended from Oscar Bentley, their seventh child, born in 1887, Welshpool. Anyone further info would be appreciated about the Bentley's, Morris's, Williams. I know that Lucy Caroline Morris married Ernest Britcliffe, and moved to Sabden. Also, Edwin's sister, Harriet, married Joseph Whittingham in 1878.
