red mail Sarah Jerman born 1897
I am looking for information on the family of my grandmother. Sarah E Jerman born 1897 who later lived in Pennal near Machynleth having married John Lewis. They had one son Caedmon Jerman Lewis born 1934, who was my father. I believe Sarah came from the Llanidloes area - since I remember visiting my fathers various elderly spinster Aunts and funerals there during 1970s. The names I recall were Sophie (deaf in one ear having been kicked by donkey as a child?), Bet (who had the use of a house where she had been housekeeper after her employers died?), Mary - moved to Ludlow, shropshire. Other possible names were Sall, Annie. I also remember Blodwen and Myfanwy but these may or may not have been Jermans. I have found one possible Sarah E Jerman, daughter of Daniel and Margaret - but the census records show brothers. No mention was ever made of any brothers when we visited. (possible they died in the war) Any information gratefully received - thank you.

She is recorded in the 1871 census as an Inn keeper in Pant called the Railway Tavern. She appears to have becomea widow around 1884, but had four, possibly six children,Annie, Alice, Sampson, Alfred, the latter my grandfather. She left Pant and appears to have gone to live in Carreghofa, llanymynech. She may have died in 1912?
red mail Pugh, Jones, Hamer
My g-g-grandfather was Thomas Jones (28 January 1836-25 July 1861), a stonemason of Great Oak Street, Llanidloes and son of David Jones. I would like to find out more about David Jones who was also a stonemason and lived at Long Bridge Street. Thomas Jones married Ann Pugh (born 1835) on 28 May 1858. Ann was the daughter of Stephen Pugh (1813-2 March 1891) and his wife Ann (1809-10 December 1885) What was her maiden name?. Stephen (son of Edward Pugh, a weaver, who was born in 1791 (when did he die?)) was the baker at The Old Bakery in Llanidloes for many years and his wife, Ann, died at the Bakehouse, Angel Yard. Thomas and Ann Jones had two sons, Edward Jones, my g-grandfather (2 August 1858-14 December 1942 (he moved with the family to and died in Mountain Ash)) and Thomas Stephen Jones who was born on 21 October 1861 (after the death of his father, Thomas) and emigrated in 1881 to Columbus, Ohio where he was naturalised at Franklin County Court on 22 October 1889. Was Thomas Stephen married before he emigrated or did he marry in the USA and, in either case, can anyone give me details of his marriage and descendants? Can anyone tell me what happened to his mother, Ann Jones (nee Pugh), wife of Thomas Jones? Did she re-marry (she was widowed at 26) or die a widow at some later stage? The name is too commmon to make research easy. Stephen Pugh had a brother, Edward Pugh (1816-19 April 1899), and he was married on 9 October 1840 to Ann Hamer (1820-24 September 1882 and daughter of David and Mary Hamer). Edward and Ann Pugh had (at least) five children, Mary, Ann, Elizabeth, Richard and Edward but Mary seems to be the only one who survived childhood. Born in 1841 she died on 9 May 1917 aged 75 leaving a daughter, Sarah, who died on 19 April 1931 aged 65 Years. Does anyone know whom Mary married so that I can trace Sarah (whose surname I do not know)? I have details of the two family graves of Stephen and Edward in Llanidloes Cemetery which is where much of my information started. Has anyone else researched these families and found further information, particularly about any earlier history?
