red mail Sarah Jane Short and William Hillier.
Hi, I am looking for the marriage between Sarah Jane Short and William Hillier, I presume it was around 1869-72, they had 11 children, their first born was Mary Ann or Elizabeth Mary Ann, there's a bit of confusion there, born about 1871 in Glamorgan. It states on census forms Sarah Jane came from Tiddington. I cannot find their marriage anywhere, I've had a thought Sarah Jane might have been married before and used her previous married name on the marriage certificate to William Hillier They lived in Newport, William Hillier was a postman, they are on the census forms from 1871 onwards. My Grandmother was Florence Mable Hillier born 1886 she married William J Wakeley. It is her birth certificate which shows Sarah Jane's former name being Short. I am at a brickwall. Would be grateful if anyone knows how I can find Sarah Jane and Williams marriage. Thank you, Regards Christine

red mail William Moore & Sons (builders)
Am trying to put together my family tree. William Moore apparently came to Newport from Bideford, North Devon in the late 1800's and set up his building firm, building many houses in Coldra Road, Newport, and elsewhere - including some fine houses on Cardiff Road opposite the Royal Gwent Hospital. Around the same time the other major builders in the town were 'Tommy' Hill and Preece. William Moore's firm also built the fine Victorian Hotel the Waterloo, which is situated opposite the entrance to the Old Town Dock and the Transporter Bridge. My grandfather, Edwin James Moore, one of the four sons, was the 'clerk of works' on the Waterloo hotel project. Another of the sons was Jack Moore, who, in partnership with a gentleman called Ford established the major local ironmongers "Ford & Moore" in Commercial Street, on the opposite corner from the site of 'Woolworths'. Edwin married Annie Elizabeth Gibbons - and their son Kenneth Gordon Moore, my father, married Daisy Dixon, who used to work in the post office in Lliswerry. Can Anyone help provide more & earlier detail please?
I am researching the Kirby family. John & Sarah Kirby moved to Newport from Newark in Nottingshamshire and lived on Barrack Hill at the end of 1800's.I believe they house they lived in was called "Highfields" or "Pitts Villa". John Kirby's parents are called William and Ann and both were born in Leachdale in Gloucestershire. I really want to know more about the Kirby family and where the tailor shop they had was situated. I also would like to know where the two houses are on Barrack Hill that they lived in.
