red mail Barber/Tanner families
I am having difficulties finding information about my Welsh born grandmother, Kate Maud Sophia BARBER (from Abertillery). She was born about 1881 (daughter of Fred and Sarah, both born about 1852) and married a Charles Tanner, with whom I believe she had two children (Reginald, born 1902, and Hilda, born 1906). Kate Barber subsequently moved away from Wales, married my grandfather, Albert Oakhill and had three further children. Mysteriously, my father never mentioned the Tanner children, and I have no idea what happened to them - they do not appear in family photos. I suspect that they may have been brought up by a relative, possibly Kate's sister Sarah, who married a George Parfitt. Sarah had three children: Cecil, Horace and Marian, and apparently continued to live in Monmouthshire. I have been unable to trace the Parfitt children, and am very curious to know what happened to my father's apparent half-siblings. It is also possible that my grandmother never divorced Charles Tanner, even though she took the name Oakhill. Any help or ideas would be very gratefully received.
