Fortunately, he escaped the ill fated ship. His books are still found in libraries in Scotland. His writings were influential and helpful to the authors, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson. red mail Dickson/Laurenson/Winsby/Thomson/Edinburgh/Orkney Islands
I am hoping to make contact with members of my family. My great Grandparents were William and Joanna (nee Laurenson) Dickson who were married in Barnet, London, on 16 June 1881. William was a bank accountant. They lived in Edinburgh where my Granfather, Adam Fleming Dickson was born (in the district of Cannongate) on 20 July 1884. He was baptised on 17 August 1884 at the Church of Restalrig. At the time of his birth the family lived at 10 Royal Park Terrace, Edinburgh. I know Adam had a brother, James and a sister Elizabeth (Lizzie) and there may have been other siblings. Adam married Winifred Wilhamina McCarthy Winsby (father Thomas Winsby and mother Catherine Thomson) from Scapa in the Orkney Islands. Winifred was one of nine siblings and had a brother Tom who went to Vancover Canada. Adam and Winifred had 6 children (3 of them died as infants, Alan and Arthur, twins b 1915 and Maurice b 1921). The surviving children were Norman, Kathleen and Irene. Adam and the surviving children emigrated to New Zealand about 80 years ago. (Winifred didn't actually settle here until the 40's, but made some trips out to 'visit' the family). When they were in Edinburgh I believe Adham worked at the Bank of Scotland - Winifred was an artist and may have possibly taught art at the Ediburgh Academy. At this time they lived in Princess Street (I think). I would be grateful to hear from anyone who knows, or has any connection to my family. Kind Regards Lynne

red mail MacGregor, Millar family 1860s/70s
Thanks to the very kind offices of a fellow 'curiousfoxer' I have acquired the details of a MacGregor/Millar marriage I was previously unable to find. This has enabled me to find dates of birth and marriage for some of the other family members, but not all. I am trying to trace information on Innes MacGregor, born either around 1865/6 or 1871/72, and on Catherine and William Millar, both born some time after 1871. Innes' parents are John MacGregor and Isabella Taylor; Catherine and William's parents are John Millar and Elizabeth Clark. Catherine married a 'Wally' Wilson some time after 1897(?), and had a son named Jack(?), apparently. All info gratefully received.
