red mail HERRING aka BRANDON
My Great Grandfather was known to us as George William HERRING. I recently obtained his marriage certificate and found he married my Great Grandmother Edith Louisa MAY using the name George Herring BRANDON at Bethnal Green in 1891. My Grandmother's birth certificate, for which the family had been searching for many years, was issued under the name of Edith Maud BRANDON, also dated Bethnal Green 1891. Some time between 1891 and the 1901 census he seems to have reverted to George William HERRING, the name by which he was always known. On the marriage certificate his Mother was listed as Elizabeth HERRING Singlewoman where the Father's name is normally. Details on the certificates are correct as known to the family, and a few years ago my Mother did tell me her Mother (my Nan) had said her name should have been BRANDON. I did make a note of this, and my Aunt has confirmed she also heard her Mother say this.
My Great Grandfather, George William HERRING, lived with a Louisa NICHOLLS after separating from my Great Grandmother. A son George was born in 1912 and it is believed they had five children together. My Aunt (aged 89) gave me this information, the spelling of NICHOLLS is uncertain, any variation is possible.
