red mail Chase End, Winchmore
I am researching my 2 x Great Grandfather, Daniel Hinton, born 1836/7, born Winchmore Hill, illegitimate son of Mary Adams Hinton born 1813, Hatfield, Herts. There are several Daniel Hintons born around the same time and one is his cousin. I found an entry for a Daniel Hinton around the correct age living with an unrelated family (the Shepherd family), possibly foster parents. The address on the census was Chase End, Winchmore, Edmonton. By the time of the 1851 census Daniel is living elsewhere with his mother and step-father, John Summers, but he has taken the surname Summers. Looking on the old maps I cannot find an area of Winchmore Hill/Edmonton called Chase End. If I can find the appropriate area, I can perhaps find evidence of his birth in parish records. I cannot find Daniel on the 1861 census but he married Susan Morgan at Christmas 1861 and is described as a private in the Royal Marines. I cannot find any evidence of this either. His name on his marriage certificate is given as Daniel Hinton Summers so I have searched in this name as well but still cannot find any evidence of him after the birth of his 4 children, the youngest being born in 1868. Any help would be gratefully received. Thank you
red mail Prudence
Seeking info on the Prudence family, believed related to the Downes family from at least 1841 (when first recorded at Dog & Duck Lane, which later became Bourne Hill), and more latterly (1893-1916) at Wilson St, Winchmore Hill, and (1939) at Willow Rd Enfield. The latter addresses were also known locations of the Downes family, perhaps most noted in Victorian times for their acumen in various forms of business, such as coal supply and distribution, animal feed supply, building and decorating, cartage of goods, and house removals etc. I have no knowledge of the Prudence family's trade or expertise, hence any info will be gladly received. Thank you.
red mail Downes
Seeking info about Daniel Downes (1777-1858), and various others of same prolific Downes family, plus those of Prudence family, believed inter-related, of pre 1841-on, in the Dog and Duck lane/Bourne Hill area of Winchmore Hill-Palmers Green. Also other Downes family members too numerous to mention individually in same locality and throughout Enfield, Edmonton etc in 18/1900s.
