I have a birth certificate for Frederick Robert Wright registered in Hackney, with parents named a Charles Henry Wright and Minnie Wright nee Williams. Clarkes in Stoke Newington early 1900's
Looking for descendants of Walter and Florrie Clarke (nee Ada Florence Baker), parents of Ted, Harry, Elsie, Ron, Florrie, Ruby & Ethel. Florrie was my grandmother Elsie's half-sister. Their father Henry Baker had daughters Ethel & Florrie (c1890 & 92) with first wife Alice Miller, and another five children including Elsie with second wife Emma (May) Weaver, plus Emma's son Albert by her first marriage. They lived in Hackney where Henry had a barbershop on Elsdale St. Elsie and her sister Edie went to Orchard Street School. The Bakers all emigrated to Canada before WW1 except Florrie who married Walter Henry Clarke in 1912, an egg merchant living on Churchill Rd. They raised their family on Shakespeare Walk and when Elsie & Edie went back to visit her in 1962 Florrie was still in the same house. My father remembered visiting the Clarkes while on leave during WW2 and playing cribbage with their son Ted. Their families gradually lost touch and, when last heard of, my father thought Ted might have moved to Brighton. Any info about this family would be greatly appreciated.

red mail Joseph James Jones
I am seeking information on the family history of Joseph James Jones, born 1843, who died from inflammation of the lungs and bronchitis on September 22, 1890 in Stepney, East London. Joseph Jones’ parents are believed to be William James Jones and Elizabeth Beale Jones (nee Strevens). Joseph Jones had originally been a jeweler, but because his eyesight had deteriorated, he had taken a job as a milkman for the Cotton Park Dairy Company. He had worked for them for 9 years and, in fact, up until two days before his death. Joseph, and his wife Sara Ann Matilda Jones (nee Smith) married in 1864, had 5 children of which one was my grandfather, Alexander Jones, born on January 8, 1882 at Stoke Newington. Alexander had 4 brothers, Lewis, born on April 8, 1879 at Stoke Newington, Walter, Arthur and Albert (places and dates of birth are unknown to myself). At the time of Joseph’s death, his wife, Sara Ann Matilda Jones, aged 45, (born in 1845 in Maryleborn, Middlesex) was living in South Hornsey, North London and working as a charwoman. Sarah had applied for two boys, Alexander and Lewis, for admission to Barnardos; they were received at Barnardos Receiving House at Stepney Causeway, Stepney, East London between December 29, 1890 and January 1, 1891. Sarah had to move from the family house because she could not pay the rent and went with her children to live in two rooms in Stoke Newington, North London. At the time of his death Joseph Jones was survived by other family members as follows; Mother-in-Law Mary Ann Smith (nee Richardson) aged 74, a widow, who worked as a charwoman and who had married a Charles Smith in 1838, location unknown. Brothers William Jones aged 58, journeyman jeweler; Alexander Jones aged 36, journeyman jeweler. Brothers-in-Law William Smith aged 48, printer, Charles Smith aged 36, journeyman optician. Sister (or Sister-in-Law) Annie Brown aged 38, married to a carpenter and living in Bow, East London. Much of the above information comes from the records at Barnardos as a result of the efforts of Mrs. Majorie Stoner, Admin Assistant, After Care Section. Wayne
