Looking for relatives of my great grandfather, John James Dodsworth, who was born in 1845, at No 1, Goulds Hill, Shadwell, to John Dodsworth, shoemaker, and Mary Dodsworth, formerly Brown. My great grandfather emigrated to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, in the 1870s. In 1878 he joined the Queensland Police Force, using references from London School Board, Board of Guardians, Bethmont, Greece, Chas Reed Foundry, Fann Street, London, and the Childrens Home, Bolton Lancashire. He served with the police on the Palmer River goldfields, out of Cooktown and Byerstown in 1878, then Brisbane 1880. In 1880 he married Elizabeth Feely an Irish immigrant to Brisbane from Kinlough, Leitrim, Ireland. He was then posted to Rockhampton where they had their first child Mary Sarah Letitia Dodsworth. He resigned from the police force in 1882, but was reappointed in 1883. His wife died in 1884. He then served with the police at Copperfield, then Mount Morgan, then Calliope, until his service ceased in 1889. He re-married a Catherine Mathers in 1889, had further children, Joseph (John) Dodsworth in 1891, Frank James Dodsworth in 1895 and Catherine Dodsworth in 1897. He died in Brisbane in 1932.His antecedents are mostly in the St George in the East and Shadwell area, and can be traced back to William Dodsworth, mariner, then merchant, ca 1750-70s (St George in the East)

Mary WAGSTAFFE, b abt 1753 in St Pauls, Shadwell, m. John CATH after 1789, his second wife. No known issue. She survived John (d.1797) and died in 1832 in Poplar, MDX. She seems to have a connection with the KAIN family who were in trade with the CATH family, but wrote Henry KAIN out of her will - he was married to Maria(possibly her daut.) Also mentioned in her will are Telford BREARLEY of Harrow Lane, Poplar and his sister Elizabeth and brother Henry, with regard to her property near Friars Gate, Derby. Any info on her previous husband or maiden name welcome.

My Fitz-Henry / Fitzhenry family came from the St George in the East and Shadwell areas of London. My g- grandfather Thomas FH married Rebecca Lamb in 1888. Her parents were Christopher and Emma Lamb. Christopher died in 1879 and Emma disappears off the face of the earth after the 1881 census when she was living in Angel Gardens aged 32. Rebecca had a brother also called Christopher aged 2 at the 1881 census who disappeared after this and the next record is his death in Tooting Bec Mental hospital in 1954. I'm looking for information on Ann (Annie) Bentley/Willis nee Deery from New Gravel Lane, Stepney, Tower Hamlets. born circa 1861. Annie married a Joshua Bentley in 1882 in Whitechapel and had 3 children, then Joshua died somewhere between their youngest childs conception (1889) & her re-marriage in 1894, to an Edwin Willis, (my G,G,Grandfather). Apparently Joshua was a tugboatman on the Thames & died when he fell overboard & drowned, or so family folklore tells... Any information on Joshua & Annie's birth, marriage or death would be appreciated..
