red mail William George Webb
I'm searching for my wifes' great grandfather William George Webb. Information on William is quite scarce but what we believe we know is:- William was born sometime around 1885-90, probably in London. He married Bertha Warren and lived at 38 Queensland Road, Islington in 1908 when his daughter Florence was born. At this time he was working as a general labourer. We have Florence's birth certificate, but cannot find any other documentation for this time. Family lore states that William died at sea in or around 1914 but have no proof of this, nor an obvious onshore death although Bertha remarried to a Mr Lawrence shortly afterwards. There was a William Webb who would have been about the right age who died at sea in the HMS Princess Irene disaster that killed 225 men in 1915 - or it may be pure co-incidence. We can find no marriage record or census records for the family between 1900 and 1911. Any help at all would be appreciated.

red mail Florence Harrison - Retired Parlour Maid in the 1901 Census
On James Edward Morgan's Death Certificate the informant is H.T. Gunning - Cousin-in-law, making his wife Florence Josephine Gunning (nee Harrison) James's cousin but I cannot find a connection between the two families. Florence Josephine Harrison was born on 12 Jul 1901 in St Pancras, and married Henry Thomas Gunning in 1922. In the 1911 Census she is shown with a Mary Ann Burton - widow - aged 58 - charwoman as adopted girl. On checking the 1901 Census for Mary Ann Burton I find her - widow -aged 48 - Laundress and Florence Harrison - boarder - single - aged 30 - retired palour maid, living with Mary Ann Burton. Florence Harrison must be Florence Josephine Harrison's mother so was she sacked from her employment as a parlour maid because she had slept with her master or one her master's sons. It states that Florence (parlour maid) was born in Staffordshire, but doesn't mention any town. Do you have any mysterious Harrisons in your tree.

Nellie was born in 1893 in Islington. She came to the US around 1918. On the ships manifest, she listed her mother as A. Hemmings. One letter that I found of her mothers, her address was Barton Street. My understanding was that she ran a boarding house. I may have photos of this family that I am willing to share. I have been trying to find where Alma Mary Elizabeth was born. Her marriage certificate says that she was b in Ireland. That her father's name is GEORGE BOND and that he was a soldier. also that her usual place of residence was the PARISH of ST. JUDES ISLINGTON. I figure that is London. Alma married TOM ROBINSON 1874 at the MEXBOROUGH PARISH CHurch. YKS. Every census gives a different age, so her dob would be 1852-1854. Alma trained to be a midwife, and she worked in both Mexborough and Stalybridge, Cheshire in that capacity. She and her husband Tom Robinson worked tirelessy among the 'working class' she never ever charged for her services. Tom Robinson was involved, in no small way, in the strike at Carrbrook, and he became the first Labour Town Councillor in Stalybridge as the result of the strike. His father and grandfather were both Stone Masons, among the most militant of the trades 1700-1800s. Tom counted as friends and comrades Ramsey McDonald; Ben Tillet and Hannan Swaffer. He would also have heated exchanges with the Tory journalist Evelyn Waugh. I would really love to hear from anyone to whom this seems familiar. Thanks Phyllis

red mail Louise GOWARD spouse William Philip SLAUGHTER
My grandmother's (Annie Rose MILTON, nee GOWARD) sister, Louise GOWARD, born HOLBORN, is the only member of her family whose birth/baptism record I have been unable to find. Since all the family were baptised I find it hard to believe she wasn't. Despite frequent searches online I have not yet found her. St. Thomas Charterhouse appears to be the church used, and the whole family lists St. Lukes as the area of their birth on census records.

red mail Kingaby Family - Islington - Middx
My unmarried mother (born 1922?) give her address on my birth certificate (1945) as 21 Camden Rd Islington. Her name was ELEANOR KINGABY....In 1954 - I was (with great reluctance on THEIR part)FORMALLY adopted by the Kiff family( with whom I had lived since birth). From her features ( on my only photograph of her ) - together with my features....leads me to the belief that I may be of Jewish Heritage. This belief is compounded by the fact that, a few weeks after my adoption( at 9 years old ),I was ( without any discussion ) baptised into the local Methodist Church ( the nearest Christian Church to our house!). None of the KIFF family were in any way devoutly religious - They were 'nominal christian church attendees'! ( Christenings, marriages & funerals!).My adoptive mother was an unpleasant woman - who refused to give me ANY information as to my heritage. I would therefore ask if ANYONE can provide any information - I would be truly grateful. Many thanks in anticipation.

red mail Cloudesley Square, Islington
Great great great grandmother Hannah KING nee WAKELING of East Anglia(Haverhill, Linton...) visited London in 1832 to see her new grand-daughter, Elizabeth King HOLLWAY, daughter of Elizabeth KING who had married Joseph Richard HOLLWAY. As her sister Martha, wife of John WALPOLE, was childless, Hannah had passed her daughter Elizabeth, born. 1800 at the age of 2 years, , to Martha & John to raise and educate. Elizabeth became their heir. Hannah was one of the first victims of the cholera in Islington in 1832, and was buried in St Mary Magdalene Church yard. The burial register states that she was of Cloudesley Square. Are there any depictions of Cloudesley Square, say 1800-1880 please? When Martha WALPOLE died in 1840 aged 84, the register stated that her abode was Brooksby Street. Similarly I would be interested in any views of Brooksby street 1800-1880.THANK YOU.
