My maternal grandfather, Robert Bifield's mother was Martha Flanagan, born c.1860 in Islington. Her parents were Francis Flanagan, born c1815 and Catherine Flanagan, nee Howell, born c1823. According to the 1871 census, they were born in the Holborn area of London, but I have been unable to find any record of either birth, or their marriage. It is possible they were illiterate Irish immigrants, who refused to give any information to the census taker, so he put down the area in which they lived. Has anyone any information about this couple? I would dearly like to know from where they originated.

My great grandmother Mary Ann Tippett was baptised in St Anselm's RC church, Lincoln's Inn Fields on 3rd November 1850. My father believed that the family came from Tipperary in Ireland, but we have no definite information. I have found no definite reference to her between the baptism and her marriage to John Alexander Hills on 11th August 1867 in St Margaret Westminster. Any further information would be appreciated.
