red mail Blanchfield family Dundalk
I am still researching the Blanchfield family of Dundalk. I have not succeeded in finding details of John Blanchfield father of George Blanchfield who married Mary Duffy in 1915. I would be very grateful for any help with this as, ultimately, I am trying to trace the Blanchfield family back to about 1790 in the Carlingford Lough area and to find a connection with a Frenchman at this time. Many thanks.
red mail Carlingford Lough
I am still hoping to get some information on a purported historical event which took place on Carlingford Lough roughly between 1798 and 1805. A French fleet was supposedly covered in mist on the Lough and when it cleared they were surrounded by a British fleet. My husband's ancestor was supposedly captured and later settled and married in the Dundalk area. I would be most grateful if anyone could pinpoint this event if it actually took place and give any further details as I have been trying for a very long time to establish the historical facts or not of this story. Many thanks. Catherine

Does anyone know anything about this historical event when the French fleet was supposedly surrounded at Carlingford Lough?

peter rice
I am looking for info on my gt gt gt grandad,Peter Rice, who i believe came from Dundalk. He was born(i think)c1813. I am descended from his daughter,Catherine Rice, who was born c 1837,and married Denis Mahon(Mahan)in 1861,in Ashton-in-Makerfield.,Lancashire.She died a few days after giving birth to their 4th child in Mar.1868. I am trying to find out who Peter was married to,also any siblings of Catherine. In the 1861 UK census,I found a Catherine Rice,(b.c1837)in lodgings in Louth,Lincolnshire....also at the lodging house was a Bridget Rice,(b.c 1834)....could they be sisters? In the 1861 UK census, the year he married Catherine,Denis Mahon was lodging in a house with a Michael Rice(b.c1839)...could this be Catherines' brother? Need to establish a connection between the 3 of them and Peter Rice. It would make a lot of sense for them all to go to England....there was the Great Famine in Ireland,1845-1852,and there was mass starvation, disease and emigration. Does anyone recognize these names? I now live 16mls from Dundalk,so if anybody knows where it is possible for me to look through the Births,Marriage and Death records, and copy relevant names out. I would appreciate any help. Thankyou., Elaine

They had two sons christened in the Castletown Parish in Dundalk: Thomas P. Traynor was christened on 2 Nov 1831 and Cornelius Traynor was christened on 26 Sep 1835.
