red mail Whiteleys
Im hoping someone is also related to the Whiteleys- as i can find no information on them despite years of looking George 'friend' (possibly made up) Whiteley born aroun 1864 born in Peterboro according to his marriage details but living and married in Chorlton upon Medlock his second wife Fanny (nee watson) whom he married in 1901 their son George Watson Whiteley born 1901 daughter Constance Whiteley 1910. they appear in 1911 to be in hildyard street grimsby- with another daughter (maybe only of Georges) Florence May Whiteley born in Manchester in 1893. who is living in service in hildyard st working for widow Rose Hayward i know Fanny was born in brinkhill but was married in manchester. Im quite curious to find out what would take someone bewtween lincolnshire and Mancheester- i googled it and i am aware the main train line was put in in 1848 or something, and in 1900 about a third of the UKs fish was being landed in grimsby. the puzzling thing is Fannys family and Georges were farmers, labourers and gardeners. so im struggling to see why they then moved back to limcolnshire. this is quite a family puzzle- since i cant find a death for George Snr- although i know from his daughters marriages that he was already deceased by 1912 and his youngest daughter was born in 1910- so i believe he died somewhere between 1909 and 1912. someone mentioned the mayor J whiteley Wilkin but i think this is a red herring (pardon the pun). anything, anyone?

red mail Pettit / Williams Family
ARTHUR WILLIAM PETTIT, 1920-1989 The late Mr Pettit was my father-in-law. A retired Major with the Salvation Army. When he died in 1989, aged 69, his origins were still unclear. He was the illegitimate son of Ethel Williams(nee Tomlinson) b1888 in Barton on Humber nr Grimsby, and Able Seaman Arthur Pettit, date and place of birth unknown. I have recently discovered thatEthel Tomlinson marrid George Williams at Glanford Brigg in 1908. I know nothing about George. Born in Grimsby in April 1920, of his early years I have few concrete facts: A half-sister, Florrie(Florence?) Williams, older than Arthur but who died in her late 'teens in the 30's, and A half-brother, George Williams. It was wartime conscription, which revealed his true parentage, previously he believed his name was, and was known as Arthur Williams. Arthur William Pettit joined the Salvation Army in 1948 and eventually became a Major. He was Officer in Charge at many different Corps until his death in April 1989. He failed to find his roots. I am trying to complete his search! Can you help in any way? Regards David

red mail Popple Family
I've seen that some people have been researching the Popple surname in Grimsby - I have a few in my tree and as it's not that common a surname - could be a match? I have 2 Charles and a Sidney, Late 1800's - 1900's
Searching for my grand father Patrick McKie.
Patrick McKie was a trawlerman living in Grimsby around 1900-15, he served in submarines during WW1 as a Royal Navy reserve marine enginee and diver. My mother was born in 1913 and the family lived at 23 Flower Square, I have checked the census records but cannot find any reference to either Patrick McKie's or any other McKie's. He possibly moved to Grimsby from Newcastle with a fishing fleet or may have come from the Isle of Skye, Scotland. He was born in 1872 and died in London in 1942, he married my grandmother Louisa Stapleton in 1905, possibly in Grimsby. If anyone has a copy of the 1911 census for Grimsby or marriage or berths, around that period showing the occupants of 23 Flower Sq I would be very grateful if they would share it with me.
