red mail Broadley Family, 1817 - 1915, Grimoldby
In 1817 my ggg grandfather John Broadley (born in Clee 1789) bought 25 acres in Grimoldby on Manby Middlegate Road just to the East of Tinkle Street. John married Ann Curtis (born in Saltfleetby 1803) at St Mary's in 1823. John was a wheelwright but he called the land "The Vineyards" as it had fruit trees. When John Sr died in 1859 his son, John Jr, continued to run the family wheelwright and orchard business at this address until he died in 1915. John Jr was born in the property in 1835 and married Frances Enderby (B 1843, Manby) in 1866. All in all the Broadleys of Grimoldby married into the Pratt, Pawson, Ellis and Enderby families. Does any of this touch on your family tree? Contact me and we can trade notes about what we know of the town and the families who lived there in the 1800's.
