red mail Broadley's of Cleethorpes 1709 - 1827
Would love to swap notes with you if you have any family history that touches on these family names in Cleethorpes from 1700 - 1850. The Broadley's were fisherman and Weslyean Methodists and were illiterate up until the last part of the 1700's. Thus the family name is spelled in many ways in the Old Clee Parish records. Brodel, Brodle, Brodwell, Broadle, Broddell, Brodell. Yes, oddly enough these names all refer to the same two generations of family that became "Broadley" by 1790. Note that they married into the Hubank and Wardale (Wholdale, Wholdall) families. Would love to hear from you. Note that it appears the Broadley's lived in "Middlethorp" or "Far Thorp" which in each case I believe refers to the old hamlet of Itterby between Oole and Thrunescoe.
