red mail William Shakespere, son of Mary Flanigan
Mary Flanigan, born in the mid-1820s, gave birth to a son, William Shakespere, prior to her marriage to Michael Flanigan. The son was born around 1848, in Tipperary, Ireland, according to the 1871 Census for Butterwick, Lincs., and was described as an 'Idiot'. By 1881, the family is living in Doncaster, but he and mum are missing. I suspected that mum had died and he'd been dumped in a workhouse because he'd become an encumbrance. A search revealed a William Shakespeare in the Boston Union workhouse in Skirbeck Road, Boston, but he is described as being born in 'Calcutta, 1846', so I'm not sure if it's definitely the same individual. There was no mention of his being an 'Idiot'. Can I find out when this individual was brought to the workhouse, and who left him there? This may also help to enlighten me as to why (if he is our man)he was put in the workhouse in Boston, so far away from his step-father and half-brothers. I can only suppose there might have been other Flanigans in the area. Any info gratefully received.

red mail George William Gale
George William Gale b. 1937 in Boston, Lincs, son of William Gale b. Latchington, Sussex in 1811 and Ann born 1814 in Boston, was a barber/hairdresser in Boston, his father. He had brother John Thomas Gale b. 1844 and sister Mary Ann born 1835. George William Gale married Eliza Stanton Paling, and had a son, George William Gale in 1876, born Boston who became a hairdresser/barber and a daughter Elizabeth Ann (Known as Bessie) in 1885.George William Gale married Emily Judson and they had three children; RL Gale born around 1901, Dorothy Gale born around 1902 and George William Gale born in abot 1905 all in Boston, Lincolnshire, England. Believe that the last GW Gale died in 1942. Eliza Stanton or Stenton Paling's sister Emma Julia Paling, later known as Brown/Browne, before her marriage to Andrew Marland, was my Great Grandmother. The Palings were from Nottinghamshire, John Paling being a gamekeeper, and from Southwell and Derby. The difficulty in the family is that Charlotte Paling nee Townrow born to Francis Townrow and Hannah Stokes and wife of Samuel Paling, moved to Scarborough by 1861 living as Browne or Brown (maybe changing her name to Elizabeth, leaving their father Samuel Paling, in Nottinghamshire! He seemed to pair up with a lady and lived, as a joiner, with her until his death. Francis Stenton Paling Brown was the brother of Emma Julia Stenton Paling Brown and Emma Stenton Gale nee Paling and he moved to Yorkshire where his son George Brown had a son Francis Stenton Paling Brown!
