red mail Lakins of Shepshed
An australian friend is interested in tracing her Lakin ancestry in Shepshed. Her ancestor Thomas Lakin became a schoolmaster and his parents were Thomas who was a deaf and dumb cobbler and his wife Mary who remarried a farmer called Spence after his death in 1851. I cannot find Thomas and Mary's marriage in Shepshed or any other children. Thomas the trainee schoolmaster was living with his parents in Shepshed in 1851 census and his wife came back to nurse Mary Spence at her death. I have found a Thomas baptised on 10th April 1803 in Shepshed, born to John and Ann Lakin and that may be our Thomas the cobbler. However there seem to be so many John/Ann/Thomas and Johns at that time and no way of knowing which is the right one. Any ideas?

red mail Harris and Haddon families Shepshed
My Mother's family were Harris's from Shepshed. She was one of a large family born to Haddon Harris (master baker) and Catherine (Nee Anthony from Coychurch Glam). They lived in 'Glen Rosa' in Loughborough Rd. The Harris family was linked, through Haddon, to the Haddon family also of Shepshed with one ancestor, Anne Haddon born in Jamaica about 1823. Can anyone help me fill in gaps, especially about Anne Haddon.
red mail Colton family
Looking for information about John Colton born 1816 in Shepshed and Sarah Colton born 1813, possibly brother and sister? Most of the Colton family lived for generations in Nottingham - Abraham Colton born 1764 and his descendants also Abraham, born 1788, 1821 and 1845 respectively. I have not been able to make the link with Shepshed. John and Sarah both moved to Nottingham; he was a framework knitter and she was a lace mender, in common with most of the other Nottingham Coltons in our family. Sarah subsequently married James Elston in Nottingham, but had an earlier daughter Eliza Colton born 1834.
