red mail 1906 mystery at 88 Wigan Road - (New Springs - Lancashire)
One of my paternal grandfather's sisters, Alice Rex ANDREWS (b.1885 in Maresfield Sussex), had four children between c1906 and 1914 in New Springs, near Wigan. There were Frank & Alice (died young), Iris (m. Fred WIGGINS) and Frank Rex (b1914 m.Alma WILLIS). Alice Rex ANDREWS had married Frank Horace JAMES, a music teacher & piano tuner. Their address was 88 Wigan Road, New Springs, Lancs. They later moved to Sutton Surrey. I was told that Frank Horace was originally surnamed SKELTON. What is the background history to 88 Wigan Road? Any SKELTON connections? Was it rented or a farmhouse to let, and who lived there c1900 onwards. It stands today on open farmland, I think. When did the JAMES leave the house, and move down to Surrey where my grandparents lived in Tadworth.

Their married daughter Mary Boulton was living next door, and it was Mary's family who continued on with the family farm, which later became part of the Walney airfield. I have details of many of the descendants of William Hardman c1789 of Boardman Lane including census returns from 1841 some of whom worked at the Calico Printworks on Manchester Old Road (on the site were Bernsteins was) and some worked at the old Bleachworks. If you think you have a connection please contact me.
