Sharrock of West Derby
Hi all. I am seeking any information on MARGARET SHARROCK who gave birth to my Grandfather ALFRED SHARROCK at 5 Leander Street, West Derby in October 1894. The name of the father was not recorded and so I am guessing she was a single mum (a No, No in those days) and probably young. She gave ALFRED away to WILLIAM and MARY MATTHEWS of Cecil Street, West Derby who brought him up. The only real MARGARET SHARROCK I can find who would fit the bill married WILLIAM PITT in 1897 and gave her age as 21 (i.e. born in 1876) and this would have made her 18 when ALFRED was born. Anyone with any further information, please get in contact.
red mail Alicia KIRBY
West Derby 1860-1872 I am looking for people researching Charles Phillips NEWMAN and Alicia KIRBY who lived in West Derby with their first 5 children in 1871 - at 7 Tuebrook Terrace. Charles Phillips NEWMAN was a master mariner and ship broker and had grown up in the Scilly Isles, Cornwall. The family had moved to London by 1881. Charles and Alicia married in Liverpool in 1860. Seeking information about the parents of Alicia KIRBY, William KIRBY and Euphemia (Effie)TALBOT, both born in Ireland and living in Liverpool 1841,1851. William was a sheriff's officer and after his death (c.1851-1861) his widow ran a boarding house in Liverpool c1861-1867. The children of William and Euphemia KIRBY were: Charlotte (b1834) and Alicia (b1836) born Liverpool, and 3 sons born in Ireland: John (b1823), Edward (b1825), Thomas (b1830). The TALBOT family probably came from County Galway, Ireland (the marriage of William and Euphemia was announced in the Connaught Journal). The KIRBYs may have come from Dublin or County Westmeath, Ireland. Seeking information about KIRBY and NEWMAN families. Happy to share what I have.
