A branch of the McCulloch family moved to Streton some time before 1901 from Bothkennar, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Husband is Peter McCulloch and wife is Annie Kincaid. Their children, all born before 1901 were Jessie Turnbull Frew McCulloch 1888; Mary Marshall McCulloch 1889; David McCulloch 1890; Peter Kincaid McCulloch 1892; Annie Kincaid McCulloch 1893; Christina Jane Kincaid McCulloch 1896; Alexander McCulloch 1897; Robert Kincaid McCulloch 1899 and James McCulloch 1899 (twins). I can first find them in the 1871 census living in Stretford (can’t get a decent printout to read the full address). They were listed as Ellen Dearden (nee Cullam) 39 born on the Isle of Man head of household. William Dearden 18 Son born Bury Lancashire John S Dearden 16 Son born Stretford Alfred Dearden 14 Son born Stretford Eliza A Dearden 12 Daughter Born Stretford. By 1881 I know the family were at 78 Oxford Street Stretford. Ellen is again listed as Head of the household, She is a widow aged 52 with her birthplace the Isle of Man. Occupation is given as Annuitant. Her son John is still with her. Listed as unmarried aged 26 born in Manchester, his occupation was Railway Clerk. Living with them at the time was Ellen’s niece Alice Cullam listed as unmarried aged 28 born on the Isle of man. Her occupation was given as Sicknurse Domestic Duties SMS. If anybody has information on this family, especially Alfred who I hope forms the direct line of my family I would love to know.

We have a prize awarded to a John and Mary Newton of Stretford for the best crop of cabbages 1782 donated by the Agricultural Society, Manchester. We are also connected to a Miss Margaret Ellen Newton of Holly House Flixton, 1843-1912. If anyone hasany information about the Newtons of Stretford or Flixton, please get in touch. Margaret Ellen Newton had a number of cousins mentioned in her will, including Stotts, Faulkners, Edwards, and an Edward Lomas. Her companion was a Jane Gabites otherwise Whiley.
