I am trying to find out more about my family background. My father was Louis Sheridan, originally from Brindle Heath, Salford and then of Irlams O'th Height. Married to Dora. He died in 1980. He had 3 brothers, Eddie (a well known boxer, his wife's name was Katy), Ernie (his wife's name was Elsie, they emigrated to the United States) and John (lived in Liverpool) and 2 sisters Edna and Laura (Laura was catering manager at Salford College of Technology in the late 70's). His father's name was also Eddie and I believe he was a regular soldier in World War One, in the Manchester Regiment. Any information will be appreciated.

I am looking for any information about my great great Grandfather, Charles T I'Anson, born in Preston abt 1831, lived in salford then married Isabella Robinson in Carlisle 1853. They lived in Penrith Cumberland. His brothers and sisters remained in Salford, at least i believe they did. Charles and Isabella had 7 children, Charles Newton, Alexander, Newton, Florence, Frances, lilly and Robert. All born between 1885 & 1889. Alexander being my grandfather. Trying to locate decendants of two aunts who emigrated to Australia in the 1920s. Frances Fletcher departed via Tilbury (London) on 2 June 1920 and settled in the Ryde district of Sydney. in 1926 she married a Adolp Lund who I believe was originaly from Finland. Her sister Annie followed her to Australia on 26 May 1926 via Liverpool and also settled in Ryde. She later married a Arthur T Yardley in 1928. I do know that one of these sisters, and I think it was Annie had three children, two boys, one named John and a girl. Any info would be much appreciated.

My great grandfather was John Gallagher he was born at 92 Soho Street, Bolton in 1866. His parents were John Gallagher and Bridget Fallon both coming from Ireland. John's family moved to Salford where he married his wife Ellen Pettitt (who was born in West Bromwich around 1867). John's father, John was born in Ireland around 1837 and married Bridget Fallon in 1861 at Pilkington St RC Chapel, Bolton. They had eight children, James born 1862 in Bolton married a Mary Clarke. Edward born 1864 in Bolton, John (as above) Mary born 1869 in Bolton, possibly married a William Creighton, Margaret born 1874 in Salford, she married a Joseph Jeffers, Philomena born 1877 in Salford she married a Thomas McDermott, Joseph was born in 1880 in Salford and died in France in 1915 he was married to Annie Broe and finally Elizabeth born 1884 in salford. On John and Bridget Fallon's marriage certificate, John's father is stated as Andrew Gallagher and Bridget's as Edward Fallon. Any information on this family would be appreciated.

Hi I am looking for anyone who knew my grandad james william (bill) holland born 1902. He lived in brownhill street salford, he had 2 children my father geoffrey holland born 1936 and his sister rita I think 1946. My grandad was originally married to my grandmother josephine holland (nee coogan) unfortunately my gran died while my dad was doing national service in germany. My dad left salford in the early 60's after marrying my mum joan fearn, and they moved to partington where I am still. Dad unfortunately died last year and he never managed to find his dad or what happened to him or his sister rita. His grandfather was frank holland who apparently was the bridgeman on the canal bridge on trafford road and he lived on marleborne road in odsall. Any info greatly appreciated.

I am trying to trace decendents of Charles William Stirrup enlisted and died at Somme in August 1916. He was a foundary worker and living in the Salford / Lancashire area. Married Jane nee Kennedy possibly of Irish parentage. There were two children of the relationship James and Mary. Mary married a John Court at St Johns Cathedral on 28.03.1932. James the older married Vera and had 4 children Marleen, Barbara, Melvyn and Malcolm last living in the Manley Park area in the fifties. My grandfather Anthony William Meddick was Polish/Russian. The first time he pops up is on the 1901 census in Broughton, Lancs. I know he was married at St.Chads R C Church, Cheetham, Lancs in 1899. He arrived here between 1891 (as not on 1891 census) and 1899 (prob about 1896). I have 1 photo of him aged about 22, stamped with 'St.Helens Police constable'. I think it was from when he first arrived in England. He then moved to the Salford/cheetham area where he lived until his death in 1936. Does anyone know how I would be able to track down any info on how he got over here and where would he have had to register. Is there anyone with Polish relatives from that time who might have some idea how to find out about his history. Thanks for any help.

I am trying to locate my husband's half-brother, who must be called Williams as his Mum was married very young once before. She never talked about her first boy, we only know the last name through my husband's birth certificate, where it stated "formerly known as Williams". His Mum was Elizabeth Smith, born 02 March 1938 in Salford, Father Thomas Smith, Mother Mary Smith nee Turner. Her first boy must have been born sometime in the late 1950s or so, after that she had 3 more boys, my husband is the youngest. She married a Richard Williams from Aberystwyth and by 1836 they were living in a grocer's shop in Bury St Salford with a son who was christened in a Calvinistic Methodist chapel in Manchester. Around 1845 and several children later, they moved to Abersytwyth and kept a grocer/confectioner shop and brought up an extended family. Any information gladly received.

Searching for relatives of Harry Robinson Waldron and Josephine Barnett, married Salford Registry Office 31.10.1889. Harry died 1912 and Josephine migrated to Australia in 1913 with their four younger children. Eldest son Leonard remained in Liverpool in 1st 5th Battalion, The King's (Liverpool) Regiment and married Georgina Sangster in 1917 and was killed in action in France in 1918. Harry was one of six children and Josephine one of seven children. My father was Leslie Benson Waldron, the youngest of Harry and Josephine's five children, died in 1974 in Melbourne, Australia. Any information on English relatives greatly appreciated.

According to 1901 UK Census they lived in Salford, Greater Manchester. Birth records for James Herbert McEvoy show the father as "Michael Harding McEvoy" and the mother as "Elizabeth Cottam". Looking for information on my mother's family, Charlie and Doris White, lived at #35 Wellington St East Salford during the war and after. Only daughter Laurie (Ethel) married Canadian airman in 1945 & moved to Canada. Doris died 1950, family rumour says Charlie remarried and had another child early '50s. Charlie was employed as a typographer or compositor.

I am trying to find information on my gggrandfather, James Frederick Aldernay Flood Brighton b1895 (known as Frederick Aubrey Brighton until his death in 1968). He was seen in the 1901 census under the name of Frederick Chatten (and relationship - visitor???)with his mother, Elizabeth Mary Brighton b Bungay 1876 listed as Elizabeth M Smith. His mother married George Joseph Smith in Burnley 1909, but already had a son, Eric bGreenwhich 1901. Frederick also had a sister, Alice Brighton b.c1893, who married Charles Hunt b 1898. Frederick's mother allegedly had four husbands, although this has not been proved. Mr Smith died c1928 and it is believed that Elizabeth moved to Australia, where she died in 1937.
