red mail Baines's of Preston canal boat owners
Looking for any details about a John (Jack) Baines born c 1904 in Preston (I think). His father was a boatman called Thomas (Tom). John later married a lady called Lily Ward and was thought to have died quite young. I have many details of the Baines's appearing on the censuses on board boats Redwing and Wasp, Lawrence and Mary Baines (Fazackerley) who had a shop on 57 Marsh Lane. There was also a boat office on Ladywell Street where many of the family also lived. I am trying to relate Jack and Tom to the rest of the family but can't find the right John (Jack) in the civil registration entries for 1904/5. I'm not sure which church he would be baptised in, some of the Baines were members of Fylde Road Primitive Church, and some RC. Any help appreciated.
