Looking for info about the O'Niell/O'Neill family ( surname appears with different spelling on different census documents ) who lived at 52 Droylesden Rd., Newton Heath. Large Catholic family with parents being Martin b 1845 in Galway and Mary nee Whelan b 1851. Of particular interest is one of their sons Martin Daniel b 1881. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

hi can anyone help, I have great grandad John Whyke who was born in Gawber Barnsley poss 1811. on the census his wife mary born1806 weaver-{no maidenname} was born in pendleton lancs. the first child Sarah 1826 is on all the census but says she was born on the 1841 census in eccles and on 1851 census in newton heath. I know they were residing in gawber by 1831. but I cant find a marriage or a sarah whyke christening, so I am Presuming Mary could be a widow or single and came with her daughter to barnsley to work in the mills. all other children were christened in Gawber church. does any one have a mary and a sarah missing between 1826-1831 from lancashire?

I am seaching for information on the family of NANCY TRAVIS, born 1795 in NEWTON HEATH, who married William Rider (/Ryder) at Manchester Cathedral on January 2, 1815. According to the IGI, a Nancy Travis (DAUGHTER of another NANCY TRAVIS, no father named) was baptised at Newton Heath on 25th February 1795. All information appreciated.

I am seeking information on Mary Wilson (nee Mills) and Joseph Mosedale of Newton Heath. Joseph was born in Wrexham, Wales in 1825 and Mary was born in 1836 at Failsworth, Lancashire. They were married at Manchester Cathedral in 1852. They had issue - William 1858, Thomas 1862, John W 1867, Elizabeth E 1869 and Albert Jesse 1870 - all born at Newton Heath.

Tytler, Cotton Machinery. Manchester: Brooks & Doxey Limited, (c. 1910). The firm Brooks & Doxey Limited was founded by Samuel Brooks in 1859, and became Messrs Brooks and Doxey in 1892. In Slater’s Directory of 1909, the proprietors are listed as ‘makers of cotton mixing, opening, cording, preparing, spinning, winding and doubling machinery’, with premises at Union Iron Works, West Gorton, Junction Iron Works, Newton Heath, and 15 Market Street, Manchester. The firm traded for almost a century, dissolving in the late 1950s with the continued decline of the Lancashire cotton industry.

They had 5 children, Sarah, Mary, Joseph, John and Daniel. Mary Wilson is my Great Great Grandmother who married Walter Ray in Lancashire in 1847.

Can anyone please help, I am looking for any details on George Henry PEARCE he was born in Newton Heath and in 1891 was in 28 Mayor Street and in 1901 48 Elias Street he married Hannah FURPHY in 1912 their children were George 1913, Ethel 1913. William 1915 and Helen 1924, his brother and sisters were Nellie 1879, Agnes 1882, William 1885, Rose 1888 and Ethel 1897 - He was in the Lancashire Fusiliers, the story is,that he went convalescant to Wales and then went off with a nurse whom he went on to have other children with. Any help would be appreciated as his last surviving child has never seen her father although it is appreciated that he will have died by now, but at least she would know where he eventually settled.

CHARLES ELLIS c 1818, & his father, PETER ELLIS
Searching for the birth of CHARLES ELLIS c 1818 in either NEWTON HEATH or MARYLEBONE, & for his parents. His father, PETER ELLIS was a "Gent". Charles was a manufacturing chemist & married ELLEN JACOBS in CHELTENHAM in 1841. They had three children, CHARLES NICHOLSON, ELEANOR MARGUERITE, & ALFRED LEOPOLD. After Ellen died, Charles married HANNAH HOWARD,in MANCHESTER. Charles & Ellen are buried at HARPURHEY cemetery in the the same grave as NICHOLSON VARLEY 1789 - 1864, of FALLOWFIELD, & his wife, MARIA 1796 - 1871, & I'm trying to find out why!

Looking for any descendants of Thomas Dawson(b.abt 1823, son of Jesse Dawson and Martha (nee Dawson, b.abt 1825) of Newton Heath, Manchester. They were married in June 1854 and their children were Thomas, Phoebe, Sarah, Isaac and Frederick. Martha's parents were Henry Dawson and Elizabeth Darlington of Newcastle, Co. Wicklow, Ireland. I have found Sarah Dawson who married James Riley in 1888 and had 12 children! Also, Lizzie McDonald lived with her Aunt Martha circa 1870s/1880s and was the daughter of Rosanna Dawson and Peter McDonald of Dublin, Ireland.
About 1828 Sarah Lee Tow was born in Newton Heath. She married Aaron Fenwick in Newton Heath on April 25th, 1852. They had Bertha, Edmund and William between the years of 1852 and 1858. Edmund married Ruth Dobson, William married Emily unknown, but christened in N. H. in 1859. No further information about Bertha. If anything here looks familiar, I would love to hear from you.
