Maude was living in 18 Cross street Hindley, around 1850 according to the census with Betty and Grace and four Grandchildren. My Ggrandfather Henry b 1833, I think may have been the illigitimate child of Alice Berry, Henry married Mary Forster, and thier daughter married Swithin Greenough, as I cannot find a father for henry anywhere if someone has any info I would be very greatful if someone could help.
Bithel family
I am trying to find a birth for Mary Bithel(possibly Bethel), I am not sure of the spelling, as it varies from time to time. Mary was on the 1841 census age 3, so I guess that makes her birth approx. 1838., but on the 1851 census she was 10. Her parents were Richard Bithel and wife. Her name varies throughout the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census, as Betty, Ellen and Elizabeth. That is not the end of the story, however. I think it is possible that my g.g. grandmother Elizabeth,(mother of Mary) was illegitimate, and that as her mother Ann Lucas married James Whittle in 1810, Elizabeth was married under the name of Whittle. I found Richard Bithel m Elizabeth Whittle in 1830 at All Saints, in Hindley. Hope some can make head or tail of this , and can help.! Regards Mary.
