searching for lenton family living in chetham lancs in 1860+
My gt grandmother was born MARGARETTA VAUGHAN GRACEY 14 June 1866 and her certificate shows her mother as Margaret Gracey, but no father was named. The address was given as 29 Moreton Street Cheetham. On the 1871 census Margaretta is living with a family in Swinton named TURTON as a "nurse child". She was still with them on the 1881 census, but when she married THOMAS CHAPMAN In 1888 she signed the register as Margaretta Vaughan TURTON. Does anyone know what happened to her mother Margaret GRACEY? I can find no trace of her before or after Margaretta's birth. Was Margaretta's father called VAUGHAN? This has been a brick wall for the past 3 years. Please help. Many thanks. Carole
red mail Coe born Cheetham
My Grandfather's brother was born in Cheetham on 28th March 1875. His parents were Edward COE dentist of Norwich, Norfolk and Mary Jane Cavendish of North Meols Lancashire. They had moved from Norwich in Norfolk. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who has knowledge of them or connections. I think they would have been staying with relatives as there seems to be several Coe's in Cheetham. They owned Grocery or green grocery shops. Margaret in Australia.
