red mail William Jackson marries Alice Williams
I need to trace the decendants of William Jackson and Alice Williams. I believe they were married in Manchester possibly Barton Upon Irwell. They had twins in 1924, Enid and Edna. Enid and Edna never married. I believe that the twins had first cousins possibly Douglas Montague and Dorothy Newitt. It's not that long ago so if you know of the descendants then please let me know, it will be worthwhile!
red mail Pownall/Barrow
Trying to find any information regarding Arthur Pownall born 1882, Dunkirk, Staffordshire. Listed on 1911 Census as married to Mary Ann (previous name Barrow) (although there is no evidence of Arthur and Mary Ann's marriage) living at 19 Wilding Street, Barton upon Irwell with Mary's daughter and Arthur's stepdaughter Amy Barrow, children Arthur, Mabel and Albert. Does anybody know what happened to the family between 1911 and 1924 when Arthur moved to Manchester and remarried? I have searched passenger lists and even prison records all to no avail.
red mail Oldfield and Rogerson families
I'm trying to find information about Joseph Rogerson and his family. Joseph (my 3rd great-grandfather), a weaver, was born in Barton upon Irwell around 1794-1796 and died here in 1868. I have good information for the 19th century - mostly from 'ancestry' but can't find much information pre-1796. Most parish records seem to date from 1800s. Any suggestions would be welcome. His daughter, Martha, married my great-great-grandfather, William Oldfield (1828-1887). William was foreman-manager for a coal company on the canal. I am interested in any BMD information from before 1837 - and also any stories, photos, anecdotes etc related to these two families and the coal/canal industry here at any time. My Oldfields eventually emigrated to New Zealand in the early 20th century - and my father returned to settle in the UK during WW2.
red mail Barton upon Irwell Workhouse
Hi all I have been searching for many months for a death of my Great Grandfather Richard Berry who lived in Walkden, Worsley and appeared on the 1901 census as still living there. I took a gamble and ordered a death certificate for a Richard Berry who died in 1901 Barton upon Irwell (walkden district at the time). The certificate has arrived and this Richard Berry died in Barton upon Irwell Workhouse. I'm confused now whether I have the right certificate because he hadn't been in a workhouse before. I've been having a look on the internet and it seems that Barton workhouse had an infirmary, could it be that Richard was sick and taken there because the family was poor and couldn't pay for his care and not that he was actually an inmate of the workhouse? Also I cannot find out where he was buried, could it be that he was buried where the workhouse was rather than back in Walkden where he was from? Was that the normal practice? If anyone has any information on this I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
