I think Moses might have had a brother, William who married Jean Wardrobe in 1791. Were there any other possible siblings? Marriages of Forsyths around that time? Did MF or Christian (Watson) F. die in Carmunnock after about 1810? What about an older Moses who might have been married to Agnes Arbuckle in 1756 in East Kilbride. Any help delightedly received.
Farm Gallowhill Carmunnock Lanarkshire 1850s - (Carmunnock - Lanarkshire)
I am researching the life of Robert Hamilton (1821 - 1885) who in 1851 was on the farm Gallowhill which sits on the north edge of Carmunnock Lanarkshire, NLS - NS600577. I have been unable to find anything about this farm except a census entry which says the farm was 120 acres. Can anyone point me toward a book or pamphlet or webpage where I might learn something more about this farm. I have found that the farm was owned in 1861 by a Captain Stuart. Thanks in anticipation.
red mail Carnbroe Ironworks - (Carnbroe - Lanarkshire)
I am seeking information regarding my great great great grandfather George Campbell. He married Agnes Dalziel. Their children were: Alexander, Robert, George, William, Jean, Agnes Janet and Elizabeth. Alexander (the oldest) and Robert (next in line) both left Scotland around 1853-55 to work for Sir Robert Alexander in Kentucky. Both of them never returned to Scotland. Because both of them died when their children were very young, we knew very little about Airdrie and the Campbell's but I was finally able to conenct the dots and we know that George died in 1861 from Pulmonary Consumption and he was born in Kirkconnel in 1806. George's father was James Campbell who was a master blacksmith and his mother was Elizabeth Baird. George had at least two other brothers - Robert (a coal merchant) and James (a blacksmith). We also know that in the 1841 Scottish Census, James Sr. and James Jr. were both living in Holytown, Bothwell. As far as we can tell, Elizabeth was no longer with them. After that time, I have not found anything. I have tried to find George using his birth year and place where he was born but have come up with nothing. I have been trying to locate any information I could regarding James Campbell and where he was born. We know that George Campbell was born in Kirkconnel about 1806 or so. Any information on where to search or who to contact would be helpful. If James was a master blacksmith, would he have been a member of a Guild? Did they have Guilds in Scotland in the 1800's? Thank you - Fina

William Dixon is stated in the 1881 census as residing as a boarder with the Muir family in Ferniegair. He was a coalminer (and as Thomas Muir Head of Household originally came from Crossgates in Fife assume he was too.) William states b. in England. He married Mary Ann McAullay/McCawley later in 1881 in Larkhall Congregational Church. There was a pit at Ferniegair and the miners tended to follow the work. William moved to Candie pit in Muiravonside following his marriage, and assumed he hadcame from pits in Durham? area. William followed the Baptist Church and I would be interested if anyone has done any research into the evangelical movement in mining families in Lanarkshire pits. My g/mother was Lucy Reid, one of a combined family of 9 children living with their father in Ivy Cottage in Lamington, after their mother had died. Half the children's surnames were 'Allan' and the other half 'Reid', due to the mother remarrying after the death of her first husband. When I was a child she would tell of garden parties at the "Laird's" (Lord & Lady Hamilton?) where she was asked to sing. She travelled throughout Europe with her half sister Adalaide, and others (unheard of at the time!) Ada went on to teach in Glasgow (Tollcross Academy). Any info on Lamington at the turn of the century, and in particular Ivy Cottage would be warmly welcomed!

red mail William Toy - (Longriggend - Lanarkshire)
My great grandad William Toy was presented with a pocket watch by St Mary's, Longriggend for winning the Military Medal for the Battle of Arras in 1917. He was probably given the watch in about 1920. Where would I find a record of this, I have tried googling St Mary's but can't get anything relevant. Are there any local newpapers that might have a mention of it in their archives? Thanks in advance for any help Anne Marie
