red mail IRON WORKS CIRCA 1800s
Looking into family geneology and information about an emigration from near Airdrie in the mid 1800s, probably 1854 or 1855. There is a place in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky called Airdrie Hill. Breifly on the early to mid 1850s a man (born in Frankfort, KY) of the name Robert Sourle Crawford Aitcheson Alexander purchased 17,000 acres containing iron ore and coal with the idea to develop an iron works there. The story holds that R.S.C.A. Alexander was heir to both fortune and title or the family in Scotland. He is said to have charter a ship and transported and undetermined number of workers and their families from around Airdrie, Scotland to his New Airdrie in Kentucky. I have family from that area, and have not been able, as yet, to determine if they were a part of this mass immigration to the US. Does anyone have any details that might determine if this event happened, and if it did some of the families invovled. Thanks, Ken
