Researching my maternal Lindsay ancestors. Almost all Kirkmabreck/Creetown quarry people. James Lindsay (m to Jane Stevenson was my Gt Gt Grandfather. Quarry manager died at Ben Cruachan Argyll 1891. Would love to hear from any survivng relatives of the Lindsay / Carson family probably in the Dumfries and Galloway area or Creetown and the surrounding area if not further afield. One of James's sons, Joseph died in Melbourne Australia Another son - William died at Chain Terrace Creetown in 1956 aged 83. I would be interested to find out where the family were during the war years.

Looking for information about the families of John Halliday (sailor) and Margaret McQuaker who had at least 3 children: Elizabeth (b. 1815), Jean (b. 1817) and Margaret. Elizabeth Halliday married John McKain in Whitehaven in 1838 and Margaret Halliday married Maxwell Hornal in Creetown in 1846.

James McDowall (also listed as Dowall or Dowah) was married to Mary Milroy 19 January 1844. James was a granite miner. The only child of theirs known to date is my great-grandfather, Samuel McDowall, born 5 December 1858 in Creetown. He emigrated toNew Zealand, and married three times, (1)Margaret Campbell (2)Janie Crawford (3)Jessie Wilson nee Fredric. He was a ships engineer for many years with the Union Steamship Company of Auckland, NZ and died in February 1919, at Wellington. Interested inany further information that may shed light on James McDowall and other members of his family.
