Any info about Elizabeth would be very encouraging. There are several Bartons in the Kent area.
red mail John Walter
Please can you help me with information about the Walter family in the Swanscombe area until 1825? There are two entries in the parish registers that link to my branch of the family: (i) 31/12/1800: Baptism of John Walter, son of John and Mary, born on 9/12/1800 (ii) 30/4/1825: Baptism of Baldwin John Duppa Walter, son of John (above) and Martha Duppa (maiden name Howe), who is my great great grandfather. The family settled at Bean Farm in the neighbouring parish of Stone. The Mary mentioned above lived to the grand age of 101 and was mentioned in the census returns of 1841 and 1851. From them I deduced she was born in Meopham in 1753 but I cannot trace her maiden name nor her marriage to John senior. She was buried at Farningham on 25/11/1853. I also have a copy of a will of a John Walter of the parish of Swanscomb (sic) dated 24/9/1686 who had a messuage at Greenhithe in the occupation of James Wouldham and James Mepham. He also mentions a farm called "great Whiles" in Seaven Oakes Wild (sic), presumably Sevenoaks Weald. He had a daughter Elizabeth and son John. His late wife was named Elizabeth. I cannot link him or his offspring to my line.
