red mail Osborne family from Downe
I would like to know if anyone is researching or has come across the osborne family from Downe. In St Mary`s parish registers from 1774 starting with the marriage of John osborn to Ann by lisence. They had a son Walter and many other children, who also had numerous children and so on. They were butchers, bakers and wheelwrights. Harold Osbourne was church warden at St Mary`s for years. 2 Female members of the family were employed by Charles Darwin at Downe house. The last member of the osbornes to leave the village was in the 1980`s who was my grandads brother george`s daughter (mabel Hearn). There is no link prior to 1774 and i assume they may have moved to Downe then, but from where? There are osborn`s mentioned in the early 1700`s but no apparent connection.
