Still looking for Turner family. Grandfather Henry was a brushmaker in late 1800's early 1900's on High Street. My dad, William, born 1903. His eldest brother, Sid, took over family business. Dad emigrated to Canada in 1925. Family home on Balmoral Street later owned by my cousin Tony (Anthony), whose widow Eileen, still lives there, I believe. Other Turner roots are Atkinson, and Vigar.
My great great grandfather John Freeman was born in Watford c 1828, son of Thomas, born c 1797 in Hemel Hempstead and Anne, born c 1796, also born in Watford. In 1841, 1851 and 1861 census John was a carpenter living in Hamlet of Cassio, High Street, Watford. Any info would be most welcome, particularly surname of Anne.

I am seeking information on the whereabouts from 1871 until 1901 of Philip Gibbs Reed Harvey, who married Marion Benwell in St Pancras in 1877, and is missing from the censuses. Marion and daughter Dora Elizabeth Tyars Harvey appear in 1891 in Watford, at Marion's sister's home, as Marion and Dora Tyers. Maybe Philip was illegitimate. He was born in oxford, and is a boarder at a school there in 1861. I know no more about him. Is anyone researching this family? Might know about him?

Alexander Snr was the licensee of the Snig Pie House from 1818 to 1826, by 1841 his wife Sarah was a widow. In the 1901 census a WILLIAM FORD is shown as a schoolmaster boarding with a Haywood family at 31 Gladstone Road, Watford, Herts. I am hoping that he is the William Ford who was a School Assistant in the 1891 census, still living at home with his parents JOHN and MARY FORD in Prees, Shropshire. Have been researching the life of his brother THOMAS FORD who went down on the Mendi in WW1, and wonder if Thomas' siblings were aware of his death. Thomas had gone to South Africa at the time of the Boer War, married twice and not returned to England until the Mendi docked there before the sinking.

Both moved with families to Watford about 1910 - James to set up a cycle business in Beechen Grove, Watford and Allen moved with British Rail to work at Stonebridge Park, near Watford. Harriot Simmonds b Watford 1821 d Watford 1865. Had a son Henry Walker Simmonds (illigitimate) on 7 January 1845 - his birth certificate shows his father as Andrew Walker. Harriot's father was named Henry but I have no details about him and I am desperately trying to knock down this brick wall. At the time of her son's birth Harriot is shown as living at Boot Yard, Watford but I can find no trace of her or Henry W in the 1851 census. Is there another way of finding out who was living in Boot Yard in 1845? If anyone can help with the Simmonds family I would be very grateful. Best wishes. Vivian

My grandfather, Henry WOOD, came to Australia in about 1900 with the first Governor General of Australia, who was then the Governor of Victoria (Lord Hopetoun). He married my grandmother, Claire Grace McCALLUM in Sydney, NSW. There seems to be a name 'Wydham WOOD' often in one form or another in this family. My mother is of the view that he was a choirboy when young. I have not been able to confirm his birth or his parents birth dates - although it is said that his mother was Adelaide LOVETT (various spellings) and I also have his grandmother being born in France - named Clotilde Unknown. (b: 1829) at St Germans Farm, St Michaels, St Albans. The 1861 Census shows him married and farming at Woodside Farm a 25 acre farm in Leavesden, Watford, where he remained and brought up his family. His wife Emma Barker (Payne) Children: Emma b: 1855, St Albans; Harriet b: 1857, St Albans; Alice b: 1860, Watford; George b: b: 1863, Watford; Frederick b: 1866, Watford; Joseph b: 1868, Watford; Richard (my G Grandfather) b: 1870, Watford; Thomas b: 1864, Watford. On 25th Dec 1891 Richard married Jane Georgina Surridge (b: 1867, Highgate Middlesex) the marriage certificate gives her fathers name as Job Surridge. The first trace of her I have is her marriage certificate and anything that would shed light on her previous existence would be appreciated. Any information on any of these people would be very welcome. Thanks

John Samuel and Sarah Spencer had 4 children, Sarah, John, Fanny and Jane Ann all born in Watford. The only one to survive was John who married Mary Ann Oyler.
