red mail Round Bush Almshouses 19thcentury
I am researching BARKER in Aldenham/Letchmore Heath, James a retired gardener born Eaton Socon and his son William a publican born in Battlers Green who both lived in Round Bush Almshouses in retirement. James was married to Ann Hannell of Aldenham in 1839 and worked locally all his life as did William who married Ellen nee Newell of Berkhamstead in 1864.They were residing at a pub called the Jolly Gardeners and also the Bricklayers Arms in Aldenham.Does anybody have info or photographs of these locations which seem no longer to exsist? I would love to hear from anyone researching these names or who maybe has some historic details of the Almshouses and their occupants in the mid 19th century.
