red mail William Preece c1790
My g-g-g-grandfather was William Preece maried to Sarah (?surname) with children Simon Barjonas 1816, Thomas 1818, Sarah 1820 and Anne 1823. Simon was baptised at Garway and the other 3 at Holmer, but I cannot find out where William lived prior to farming in the Holmer area or what Sarah's surname and place of residence prior to marriage were. Due to Simon Barjonas's unusual name I am betting on Sarah coming from Monnington-on-Wye born 1793 and whose brother Simon B died at the age of 16 in 1784. Sarah's parents were Simon and Anne Preece. Any help would be much appreciated.
Benjamin Preece
I'm researching Benjamin Preece. He was born in 1783 in Callow, Herefordshire (I THINK he had a brother, Thomas, born in 1785, who stayed in Callow and became the village blacksmith). When he was 21, he enlisted as a Private, in the 1st (or Kings) Dragoon Guards horse cavalry. The regiment stayed in Britain EXCEPT for 1815, when they fought at Waterloo. He was discharged "worn out" on 11th Oct 1826, aged 43 & became a Chelsea Pensioner and received 1/- a day. He'd served 24 years 1 month. 5 8, brown hair, grey eyes, pale. Trade given as bricklayer. Somewhere along the line, in c. 1834/5, he had a relationship from which was born a daughter, Sarah Phillips, in Aconbury, Hfds. He re-appears in 1841 as a bricklayer in Ledbury, married to Irish Bridget. She MAY have died in 1844. In 1847, he marries Elizabeth Williams, from Lower Bullingham in Herefordshire. In 1851, Benjamin's a 68 year old journeyman stonemason, living with Elizabeth, (52) and his illegitimate daughter, Sarah, aged 16. In 1861 he is in Haywood, Herefordshire, aged 78. Elizabeth has died and he's on his own. He's listed as a Chelsea Pensioner, born Callow, Hereford. The final record is his death in Clehonger on June 22 1870 aged 87; he is of parish of Haywood. I would LOVE to hear any connection with Benjamin - if you have any connection, no matter how tenuous, get in touch!
red mail Death of James Davis
I am trying to find any information about the death of my grandfather, James Davis. He died in 1954. He had lived at Longdon Villa in Hereford most of his life and I thought he had attended St. Martin's Church where I was baptized. However, they have no record of his being buried there ; I have tried other sources as well-to no avail at this time. He was a postman prior to his retirement. His first wife, my grandmother died in 1914 and he remarried. I do not know the name of his second wife. He served in the 14th Hussards from about 1897 to 1920. His sons were Walter Davis and George William Davis. Marilyn

red mail Looking for Help or a Geneologist in Herefordshire
I'm currently researching my family history and my efforts had led me to Eastbatch, (Evesbatch) Herefordshire. I hired a genealogist in Gloucestershire who provided me with this lead and suggested I hire a genealogist in that area to continue my search. I've searched the net for a local genealogist but can't seem to find one so I thought I'd try here. Here's what I have to date: I have confirmed Thomas Skynner as a relative and have the following lead from Newent burial entries: 1820 May 3rd Thomas SKINNER of the town of Newent aged 48 Assuming Thomas SKYNNER was born around the year 1771/2, I have the following baptism in the parish of Oxenhall: 1771 November 10th Thomas, son of Francis and Sarah SKYNNER baptised Then found the following reference for Francis SKYNNER for the parish of Oxenhall, on the Overseers of the Poor Index. P225 CH 3/1 Newent Settlement Certificate dated 1755 Francis SKYNNER from Oxenhall Also burial entries for Francis and Sarah SKYNNER in the parish registers of Oxenhall. 1789 April 16th Francis SKINNER, a labourer and pauper buried Then found marriage of Francis SKYNNER to a Sarah, took place in the parish of St. Mary de Lode in Gloucester in 1746 St. Mary de Lode, Gloucester 1746 December 5th Francis SKINNER and Sarah ACOCK of Hereford and Gloucester Married by license. Checked the license index, found the reference and ordered up the marriage: Marriage Licence Reference Q3/50 p12 5th December 1746 Francis SKINNER of Eastbatch in the diocese of Herefordshire, bachelor aged 25 years and intends to marry Sarah ACOCK of the city of Gloucester, spinster aged 21 the parish church of St. Mary de Lode, Gloucester. Francis SKINNER made his mark X What I'm trying to do now is confirm that Francis & Sarah are Thomas' parents and then if this lead is accurate: A possible lead with a IGI baptism entry in the parish of Bishops Frome 1718 May 7th Francis, son of John and Anne SKINNER baptised The last advice given to me was to hire a Herefordshire genealogist to help in my search, possibly going to the Herefordshire Record Office. I'm in Ottawa, Ontario so this may be a bit of a challenge for me and they charge about 20 pounds so hopefully this site can assist me. Some people here helped tremendously when I was starting my search so maybe I'll get lucky twice.
