Arthur Jones (Prosser)
My grandfather, William John Jones, had a brother, Arthur, who apparently kept a pub in Peterchurch. His mother was Emily Prosser from New Tredegar in Wales. She married a David Jones but later married a man called Skuse so Arthur could be known as Prosser, Jones or Skuse. I would be grateful for ant information.

So many Jones' in this area! I am looking for descendants of William ( born Eaton Bishop 1813) and Mary (nee Williams, born Radnorshire?). They lived mainly round Peterchurch area, but also Craswall, Talgarth and Michaelchurch Escley. Children - Mary (1838 Crickhowel) William (1840 Crickhowel) Samuel (1843 P/church) Thomas (1849 P/church) Daniel (1851 Craswall) George (1856 Michaelchurch). Thomas and Daniel went to Derby to work on the railway. What happened to the others? William senior died in 1891 Peterchurch living with his sister Mary Pritchard. I'm now trying to find Craft Hall in Long Lane,Peterchurch. This property was mentioned in documents between 1879 and 1911 but I have yet to find it on a map, old or contemporary. It was occupied by BOWYER, LEWIS and possibly MADDOX families. Any help with locating this property would be appreciated.

I am descended from a branch of Peterchurch Powells who married into or were descended from Pikes and Maddox's. Place names such as Poston, Trenant, Long lane etc are all in the family. Can anyone help me to find any details of Samuel Bibilec(sic)Evans born 1792 in Peterchurch? I think he was the son of Margaret and Samuel Evans. He went on to marry Margaret Jones at Hay in Breconshire in 1816 and from about 1825 farmed at Beguildy in Radnorshire and died there in 1864. Any help would be appreciated.

Prices of Peterchurch. This family history is put together by David Price & various other sources, a thanks to Nancy for her input. We are focusing on James & Catherine Price. James was born in 1808 Claddock. Herefordshire. He also married a Price, they were married in November 1833 in Peterchurch. The 1871 census shows they lived at Wernhyre, farm of 54 acres.Samuel McKay was a farm servant. Visitors were Charles & Elizabeth Lewis neePrice Sister of James Price Jr.(b) 1837 married Emma Price (d) of John & Elinor Price New House Farm Michaelchurch. James & Emma married 1864. James death 1923 at Old Tay Peterchurch at 87. Emma died 1881 Dragons Pool. There are 10 children of this marriage, 5 died at a young age. James married 2nd wife Clara E.Lewis, there are 6 children from this marriage. We will identify most of the living children below. Children of James & Emma, James &Edith Price(b) 1865 Dragons Pool, Catherine Hannah (b) 1870, Thomas (b)1871 Sept. 16my Grandad, Samuel (b) 1875, William (b) 1879 Oct. 2. Children of second marriage James & Clara, Clara Elizabeth (b) 1884, Emma Ellen (b)1892 Pen-y-lan, Ernest Lewis (b) 1894. Out of 16 children from both marriages, these are believed to be the ones that lived. Most of these Prices farmed around the Peterchurch area, Barley Knapp, Wernhyre, Old Tay, Dragons Pool. The descendants of Thomas & Elizabeth Price, they lived at Barley Knapp Peterchurch. They had 5 children. Ethel (b) 1893, Annie, Jack, James (Jim) (b) 1899 Barley Knapp, Charlie. Thomas died 1902, Elizabeth remarried a Jones. James Price was raised at The geen Clifford then the Croft middlewood by his aunt Hannah Morgan. James met Temperance Drew grandaughter of Dansey Sheen Drew. James & Tem married in 1928, there are 5 children from this marriage, with Tom, Dave, & Ann emigrating to Canada where their families now live. Dennis i would like to hear from you, did you go to School in monmouth in1952 .Ernest was at Old Tay in 1911 age 16. My dad farmed at Bodcott during the War, Then moved to Mitchel Troy in 1944 lower common farm.

I am researching my grandmother's family the Maddoxes who lived in and around Peterchurch at least 1740 - 1914. Great grandfather William Maddox, born 1849, was a gamekeeper at Poston House ( Mrs Robinson). His relations and ancestors, (many named William) farmed at Barley Nap, Trenant Mill, Slade, Syon Hale and Long Lane at various times.There are many Maddox gravestones in the churchyard at Peterchurch including that of my great grandmother Sarah (died 1914) but I have yet to find where her husband William is buried or when he died. Grandmother Edith Kate was born in 1877 and had brothers William, Charles, Albert (m Isabella Brookes 1896), Arthur and Ernest and sisters Mary Ann (m Albert Powell 1893), Isabella and Sarah. Any information about these Maddoxes or the family of James & Jessie Maddox, Trenant Mill ~1880-1900, and their children William, Henry (Harry) and Jessie (m1William Lewis, 2Samuel Powell) would be much appreciated.

Any information on the HOWARD or HOWARTH families from Peterchurch would be appreciated. Robert HOWARD/HOWARTH was the son of Thomas and Mary. He was b.1717 and married Ann ? They had 3 sons Thomas, Timothy and Peter. Thomas b. 1743 married Mary Ball of Blakemere and had a son Thomas b. 1792 and daughter Mary. Thomas married Jane Watkins b. Radnorshire and they had 5 sons and 2 daughters. Between 1835/37 they moved to St Margarets where they lived the rest of their lives.
