red mail Habakkuk Cook & co.
Habakkuk Cook & co. I was pleased to learn more of the origins of Habakkuk Cook (married Hannah Knight) who lived in Longdon and whose PCC will was proved in 1816. Hannah was something of an heiress; an act of parliament concerning the estate of her father the Rev. Thomas Knight of Castlemorton received royal assent in 1808. (see also the diaries of William Rayer at Worcs. R.O.) Four of the children of Habakkuk and Hannah married into my families. Thomas Knight Cook married in 1794 my 4x great aunt Judith Clarke - the daughter of John and Elizabeth Clarke of Pendock Farm/ Priors Court, Pendock; Ann Cook married in 1794 my 4x great uncle William Rayer of Longdon; Elizabeth Cook married in 1799 Joseph White of Queenhill; and Mary Cook married in 1806 at Eldersfield his brother William White. (Anna Cook married John Berkeley of Longdon.) I have not discovered much about the lives of the four children of Thomas K. Cook and Judith, but he was buried c.1807 at Castle Morton (my notes escape me) and Judith married in 1809 at Berrow another White brother - John. The latter seem to have fallen on hard times and lived (also) in Colwall in straightened circumstances. John White was buried at Queenhill in 1846. The last I knew of Judith was that she was with her son Thomas K. Cooke, his wife Susannah nee Sennick, and some of his family at Hanley Castle in 1851. I would love to hear more!
red mail Cook (Cooke) Family of Colwall & Ledbury
Richard Cooke married Hannah (Anne) Parker on 3 Oct 1739 in Colwall. Although I don't know his parent's names, I've been told he had sisters Amey (sic) and Ann b 1733. Richard and Hannah had at least 4 children: Joseph, Habakkuk, Richard & Mary. Habakkuk was baptized on 24 Aug 1740 at St James the Great, Colwall, and he married Hannah Knight on 5 Dec 1769 at Castlemorton, Worcestershire. Habakkuk & Hannah (Knight's) children were Isabel, Elizabeth, Ann, Thomas Knight, Anna Hannah, & Mary. Thomas Knight Cooke at least was born & died in Worcestershire where he married Judith Clarke, but I have found a lot of males in the family who are....Knight Cooke (or Cook.) One particular son changed his spelling of the name to COOK by deed poll c 1850
